Lack of existing squad depth / competition for places this season..

Defence .

Alison ~ Kelleher - Yes in fact i trust Kelleher more in possesion than Alison, but Alison is rightly No 1.

Trent ~ Ramsay - Cannot be considered due to injury record, no real proper RB pushing Trent which is an issue.

Konate ~ Gomez / Matip - Gomez has gone backwards so no, Matip age is catching up with him, so not sure.

Van Dyk ~ Phillips / Williams - both good but not top level so no.

Robertson ~ Tsimikas - good but not pushing Robbo so no.

Our Midfield ~ unfortunately age has caught up with our usual go to players, so overall standard just average regardless of squad depth.

Forwards.

Salah ~ Doak potentially but no other stand outs options pushing him atmo.

Nunez ~ Gakpo looks good early days but potentially great option.

Jota ~ Firmino an absolute legend but I think it could be time for him to move on, having very little impact atmo

Diaz ~ Gakpo see above.

So on my appraisal giving Ramsey the benefit of the doubt, in defence we need 2 central defenders and a better left back to push Konate, Van Dyk and Robbo.

In midfield i think i agree with the general consensus, three top class starters required to come straight into the first team and a serious cull of the rest regardless of their current contract situation.

Up front one world class proven striker would be my preference to replace Firmino, allowing Nunez and Gakpo the time to develop rather than being our mainstay strikers, that lad on the left wing from Napoli would be one of my favourites or Chiesa ….

I know thats a major overhaul, but unfortunately in an ideal world thats what I think is required now after years of severe under investment… this team sadly has grown old together and that has to be addressed this summer otherwise top four next season, never mind competing for titles, will just be a pipe dream.

Gomez has been "decent" at right back, to be fair.

Don't think we need as much as that, not right away anyway.

- Think some lads absolutely need a good Summer break.
- Think we need two really good mids to come in.
- Think we could use a centre-back (N'Dicka?)
- Think we need to release most/all of those coming to the end of contracts

There is undeniably work to be done both this Summer and next, but I don't think the squad needs ripped up. Sort the midfield out and that will make a huge difference.

Not sure the latter 2 would like than.
Perhaps Fabinho could be the other CB.

Healthy situation nothing needs doing for next season.

Exciting talent to come into the 1st team squad.
