Cleaning up the Scots since the 13th century
Villa v Arsenal at the weekend so we really must win at Palace to put the pressure on Arsenal by being top when they kick off.
Absolutely ideal, but still 23 matches for both to play so it's not a disaster if it doesn't go our way.
Still, a win would be amazing.
Good to be 4 points ahead of Man City, though it's worth remembering it has taken 4 League matches without a win for them for it to happen and they can go on 10-15 match winning streaks, which is so damned annoying.
Their upcoming fixtures look very forgiving on paper.
We need to make up for a couple of unnecessary draws in the early part of the season by putting a run of wins together in this middle part of the season, if we are to win it this time round.
Possibly yeah - though I still don't see a 95-pointer sort of season for whatever reason - perhaps the fact a few sides at the top look like they can nick points off each other.
Only difference (in the League) between us and Arsenal is they won one more match whereas we drew.
Just the one loss in the League for us and the opposition needed us to be down to nine men to get it. We have a number of the trickier away trips done and dusted so provided we can avoid dropping points in banana skins I'll feel good about where we're going as we look excellent at Anfield. Picking the away form up a little would be good and injuries are a concern, but Jota and Alisson should be back soon enough to assist the side.
They're notching up a decent enough number of wins in the League. In terms of the sides who are doing best in that department -
11 wins - Arsenal
10 wins - Liverpool, Aston Villa
9 wins - Man City, Man United
- with everyone else having won 8 times or less. They haven't drawn a single match yet though, so all 6 of their other League fixtures were losses and unless they seriously improve their away form against sides in the top half of the League, they'll be in trouble. They haven't exactly had an awful fixture list so if they hit a difficult run of games I'd expect some drop-off.
Yep, & Spurs were 14 points ahead of them after just 10 games. That gap has almost halved 5 games later despite Chelsea’s form being anything but good.
These sudden turn arounds in the standings are not that uncommon. We were top of the table Christmas 2020 - many felt another title was a foregone conclusion… some might have seen glimpses of what was about to unravel, but most did not.
Sadly we won only 3 of our next 14 games - losing 8 in the process including 4 on the trot and 6 out of 7 games in a sequence.
I remember one of our Paisley sides was 12th at Christmas - and won the league.
This is why - despite its ability to kick us in the balls - we love football.
they had 42 league games back then. 4 more so more chance of gaining ground..
Just keeping winning thats all we can do really.
