Yeah you're probably right with that.
Fair play to him to be honest, staying for another year is a risk but it's also an indication of his confidence and good for the fans and the club that he's not off at the first sign of big clubs chasing him. Says a lot about him and looks good in my opinion.
Hopefully he'll be able to keep hold of his squad and do well again if he does stay.

I honestly think there's every chance it goes the other way.

If he gets Leverkusen a deep Champion's League run next season and they finish in the top three in the Bundesliga, doubters may say "ah, so he CAN do it consistently" - and if he is as good a Coach as we think he may be, then it's entirely plausible that he achieves this.

A possibility but a risk nonetheless

Well, I must say I am surprised that Alonso has not announced he's leaving in the summer and risked undermining Bayers season.

“ Past success is no indicator of the future “

Is a much used phrase in the financial industry but it is also so relevant when describing sport…

We are all now lauding Klopp for his tenure, but I dont think anybody really anticipated quite the level of success on and off the pitch he has managed to achieve, right at the very beginning of his appointment.

He looked a perfect fit, he turned out to be a perfect fit…but no one knew for sure that he would be…

It’s exactly the same with Alonso or any other manager we finally choose to appoint. We can do all the due diligence and analysis we deem necessary, but in reality it's all a bit of a lottery and only time will tell if they turn out to actually be a good, great or very poor appointment.

“ History teaches us this time and time again..”

Anybody who says any different, are really just kidding themselves….

Made official. Xabi not leaving. As expected all along. No surpise. Eyes firmly fixed on Madrid after a year or so in the CL....

    He's shite anyway....
