All good points but it’s a bit early for the season’s obituary.
Slot has landed a dream job with a dream squad. It’s not all doom and gloom.

I have to say I feel really sorry for Arne Slot….
Having to follow Jurgen Klopp, what an absolute nightmare…every result and decision he makes this season will be constantly scrutinised and compared to Klopp, by every fan and pundit alike.
Whilst he has inherited what is a very good squad, he has also inherited three of his best players in their last year of their contracts… with no resolution on their complicated contact renewals anywhere in sight. Until these three issues are resolved one way or another it just adds more unwanted back ground noise for Slot
He has had a pre-season with most of his likely starting 11 on extended holiday, only returning two weeks before the start of the new season. Certainly not ideal, and so getting his ideas across is going to be a slow process rather than an immediate one.
He has inherited a raft of talented youngsters on the fringe of the first team, who whilst they performed really well when called on last year, given he doesn't have the credit in bank enjoyed by JK, he knows he has to hit the ground running so he knows he cannot afford to gamble on potential, he needs the finished article in every position.
By agreeing to either send most of the youngsters out on loan or sell them because of the pressure he is under to succeed has created even more noise, when in reality most of these players are very good, but it has to be said most of them will never really be top four quality, ergo so not really good enough to play at Liverpool, if we truly want to compete against the Europe’s best, either at home or abroad.
Social media are also mischievously linking all of LFC’s better players, namely first team squad, Gomez, Konate, and especially Diaz with potential moves away from the club…. which cannot be good for team spirit even before the season has begun.
He has genuinely needed time to assess his squad which has clearly impacted any recruitment strategy, unfortunately the failure to get the Zubimendi deal over the line has created even more noise around transfers, something that is clearly out of his hands…but shit happens and can we really blame Zubimendi doing a Gerrard..and we certainly cannot blame the Sporting Director, the player simply changed his mind, it is what it is…money was clearly not the issue.
I think that we all have to accept that this season was always going to be a tough one, and one of transition rather than anything else… I am keeping everything crossed, regarding new signings and performances going forward, but I think despite all of the above this season is going to be riddled with massive ups and downs, pretty much like Klopps first season.
We all need to just hang on and enjoy the rollercoaster of a ride this season will undoubtedly be… 🤞

VOTE JOCKY tae fix this fiasco.
That was an attempt to simply sympathise with the challenges facing Slot in his first few months in charge, it certainly was no obituary, I am quite excited to see what a fresh approach fromma new coaching set up can achieve this season.
I think Pre- season was very encouraging and lets not forget, this very same squad were fighting on all four fronts last season and looking good until late March early April, despite injuries to several key players.
Unfortunately, it all started to go Pete Tong when the big boys came back and could quite get upto speed quick enough, so although JK is no longer at the helm, I still think there is a lot to be excited about…but we all need to just be realistic…
It's a mixed bag for him - we can see a number of potential hurdles and fans will have concerns about whether or not we will do enough via the market to future-proof key positions. I mention age profile a lot and I would hope the following is a "goes without saying" but the quality needs to be there and I can understand fan apprehension about what may lie ahead of the departures of, let's say, Alisson+Van Dijk+Salah.
On the flip side though, I think he'll be chomping at the bit to get to work and if I recall correctly, the biggest transfer acquisition he has had in his career was the purchase of a player whose fee was Ł8m - which is a pittance in the current market. Some fans may hold concerns about things like egos or judging who is good enough when most of them will be better than many of the players he has worked with, but I am really interested about possibilities of areas where we might "find percentages" as I call it.
- Will we retain the ball better and kill 2-0 games with passing rather than busting ourselves trying to get another goal?
- Will Slot's backroom find methods that result in less injuries? As much as people point to squad depth last year, there's no denying that injury and questionable refereeing decisions were a contributing factor last season too.
- Will Slot use subs differently and rotate more, leading to a couple of "surprise package" players who have better seasons than we expected?
- Will a different voice unlock something in lads we want a little bit more from, such as Gravenberch and Núńez?
If he has any kind of ego or self-belief about himself I think he'll be expecting doubters (probably moreso the media than fans) and naysayers and he may be the sort who revels in that environment and wants to prove people wrong.
I'm excited about it all. I do want to see transfers come in and see contracts sorted, though with the current structure they aren't his job - he can dedicate himself fully to the coaching of the players and whatever happens with the other hurdles that present themselves for chaps like Hughes and Edwards, I am keen to see what Slot can do.
smoking crack up his crack...
