What to do with these fringe/academy lads?

We have a big squad at present, which, in many ways, is a nice problem to have. For most positions we have depth or a back-up which is great - though understandably many Reds don't want to "settle" on this as the proverbial arms race is always in motion and we can't afford to fall behind.

So, who has a future? Who would you keep around? Who would you keep? Sell? Loan? Full disclosure - a few of the lads in the list definitely aren't yet ready for a "step up" but I feel a couple of them are.

The bar is incredibly high at Liverpool and if we are brutally honest, most young lads don't make it with us as we're one of the best sides in the country. Equally, players can break through unexpectedly. Quansah got 13 Premier League starts last season and stayed in the side towards the end of the season on merit. Trent's trajectory required a tiny bit of luck if we consider the overall reliability of Clyne.

    - Van den Berg
    - Carvalho
    - Bajcetic
    - Morton
    - Doak
    - Beck
    - Chambers
    - Scanlon
    - Nyoni
    - K. Gordon

*I will edit a couple of bits tomorrow to tidy the post up and give a bit about each player respectively*

From that list I would only pick Bajcetic, Nyoni and Morton to get into our first team squad. I would add Bobby Clark and James McConnell. Maybe Jaden Danns, not sure. The rest I would send out on loan. I would sell Carvalho.

    Sell Carvalho,

Keep Van den Berg (4th choice), Bajcetic, Doak

    Loan the rest.

It all depends how seriously we take the cup games as some of these youngsters might get good opportunities but I think for their development a loan to a championship side would be better and show the club how good they are.

Sell the first teamers because they're all world class and the next ronaldo's etc

and fsg will be loving it

Because every young player makes it here, really good every youth is the best.

Van den Berg, 22, to stay unless we buy a better centre back, he can't go on loan again.
Carvalho, 21, I hoped Slot would turn him into a top top player, I'm reading Fabio sees himself as a 10 and Slot wants him to settle on the wing and get his head down and work hard etc.
Bajcetic, 19, keep and ease into the team - Slot says he will need time.
Morton, 22 in Oct, I had high hopes for but midfield numbers may squeeze him out. I read an article that said his stats (admittedly at Hull) were better than Endos last season except for one or two key metrics.
Doak, 19 in Nov, looks set to go out on loan
Beck, 22 in Aug, is at the age where he needs to play so it's make or break, depends what happens at left back.
Chambers, 20, is going on loan to Wigan
Scanlon, 19, probably a loan I should think
Kaide Gordon has also been linked with a loan
Koumas and McConnell loan, I'd keep Clark and Danns but I see Danns linked with a loan to Plymouth
Nyoni, 17, is hopefully not Slot's Billy Koumetio, may not be physically ready for the premier league but they said that about Harvey Elliott, if you're good enough, you're old enough!
Harvey Elliott, 17, showed a big improvement in his hairstyle since he first broke into the team, and seems to have added a few more tattoos in his locker.

Van den Berg - Keep * Pleasantly surprised tbh, fully evaluate him in FAC / League Cup and against the lesser teams in Prem.
Carvalho - Loan * Too lightweight for me, 2 solid seasons growth in a tough league might just change my mind.
Bajcetic - Keep * Transition into 1st team this season as soon as fitness allows. Potential baller…
Morton - Keep * Potential Endo replacement going forward, good squad player.
Doak - Loan * Massive potential but needs to develop his end product and decision making away from the spotlight of LFC.
Beck - Keep * Back up to Robertson, sell Tsimikas as he constantly disappoints me regardless of the opposition.
Chambers - Loan * Not sure on this one not seen enough of Chambers to evaluate him properly…
Scanlon - Loan * Same as Chambers, not seen enough of Scanlon to evaluate him properly…
Nyoni - Keep * Excited by his potential, play in FAC / League Cup and against teams in mid - table and see if he can blossom.
    K. Gordon - Keep * Sparingly use as back up to Salah and like Nyoni lets see if he can blossom.

Cheers BOB and Daffy - the clock is ticking a little now on deals, so I'm intrigued to see which of them stay around the squad and which get (hopefully good!) loan deals.

Kev, the forum is always weaker when the ownership stuff leaks into every single thread. There's more than one FSG out thread - why not dig one up?

FSG, like most owners, are investors - and nobody doubts for a second that when they eventually sell the club, they will make an enormous profit, as is the case for many football club owners - it's naive to think otherwise.

But if our transfer policy was all about making FSG a lot of money, why not sell a star player every season in (or close to) their prime?

Indeed, how many times have we done that since Coutinho, when the money was simply too good to refuse? It's not a very long list - more often than not we have improved player's contracts to keep them here. Look at how long Salah has been at the club compared to the likes of the 3 and a half seasons that Suarez and Torres gave us respectively.

Not all of the young lads will "make it" with us - but some will. The thread is simply an exercise in discussing the potential futures of some of our players.

If I seriously wanted to "shill" for FSG I'd definitely find a bigger platform than the LFC Online forum, given the tiny user-base here - in the same way that if users here actively wanted to "hold FSG to account" I'm sure they'd realise that making the same tired complaints on such a small website hasn't actually changed how the club is run.

    Nothing ironic about it.

People make points on a subject.

Other people (like myself, responding to you, in this instance) make counter-points on that subject. Branches of conversation that get started typically get continued - it's how discourse tends to work and forums are built around discourse.

If you don't want me to hear counter-points (ie "reply and carry on") to anti-FSG viewpoints, then don't make the points to begin with - that way no counter-point will arrive. The forum isn't (yet) an echo chamber.

I've no real issue with people discussing the ownership - everyone is very entitled to their views and as far as I'm concerned the more people express themselves the better - but it would be eminently preferable if it remained within a couple of relevant threads, before we find ourselves in the mind-numbingly dull post-match pattern of every thread being diluted by the narrative of every win being down solely to the Manager and players and every loss being solely down to the ownership and our financial+recruitment models.
