Referees these days are clearly influenced more by simulation, than they are by the actions and intents of others. Silva deliberately baulked the keeper when the ball was delivered into the box and then cleverly stepped away just as Stones headed the ball, for the referee not to see this as a tactical foul is just laughable. Not even sure the “ on pitch “ review even showed this action by Silva..
If the Wolves keeper had simply fallen to the ground from Silvas contact the referee would have given the foul, and nobody would have probably questioned it. In many ways its similar to a player getting fouled in the penalty box honestly trying to stay on his feet but failing to get his shot off cleanly, Referee’s never use the argument he tried to play advantage, there was clearly no advantage and then award the penalty… so is it any wonder players now just fall to the floor with the slightest contact, inside and outside of the box, unfortunately for Wolves their keeper didn’t….
I have just remembered, Silva did the same thing earlier in the game and stepped on the keepers toes, so clearly a Man City tactic, but on this occasion the keeper fell to the floor and the Ref blew his whistle … just saying…
I can see why people think it should or shouldn't have been given but the overarching point for me is it's yet again more Guardiola shithousery. He loves it and was clearly thrilled with Silva.
That whole part of the game needs eradicating,it's based in nothing but pure gamesmanship. Gaining an advantage by acting like a cunt basically.
My argument is based on an historical Bill Shankly comment, “If a player is not interfering with play or seeking to gain an advantage, then he should be.”
The fact that players consistently stand in front of goalkeepers and in this particular example, actually baulk the keeper whilst the cross is in flight, is proof positive that deliberately interfering with the keeper is an integral part of the set play… Pep’s reaction with Silva at the end spoke volumes, and his subsequent on pitch analysis was just pure pantomime, laughable… talk about playing to the cameras…
Nottingham Forest now above Newcastle and Man United via the occupation, however temporary, of 8th place in the League.
Whilst it's way, way, way too early for any side to have delusions that they are safe from a relegation battle, they're certainly putting themselves into a respectable position early doors. People often still view 40 points as the safety mark and they have 11 games to get 7 more points if they want to have accrued 20 points by the half-way mark of the season.
That Glasner looked to have steadied the shop at CP back end of last season, Absolutely gone to shit this season.
FA to question Wolves manager following his comments.
Wonder how that's going to go?
