not seen that much of him granted, but Ricardo Pepi could be worth a punt, plays for PSV having a good season. only 21

It's a hard one, because nunez can be good, will see how rest of season plays out, If jota misses most of the season if anyone will actually buy him, hate to say it because I think he's great, but I'd move him on, I'd rather keep Nunez because at least he actually stays fit and can play, and can make the difference at times.

Eitherway at some point we'll need a clinical striker unless we find the next Salah, or a player similar that scores goals on the left.

Yep, I flip flop from one to the other, as one of them misses another from 5 yards and the other falls over and misses a couple of months.
Don’t think we should keep both after the summer, think one should be moved on because between them they don’t make a reliable CF for a title chasing team.

The trouble is that we could move on one or both of them and then replace them with a cheap bargain basement signing, or possibly even not replace them at all.

Maybe it's resignation to insulate from the fear that he's leaving.

If he’s had his head turned then nothing we can do but it’s down to FSG he’s got the option of a free.

Maybe. There doesn't seem to be the same attitude towards Salah or VVD.

I would think it's down to TAA as to where he ends up next season.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't think it's so much indifference as it is interpretation of his importance to the club in relation to output and wages.

That's a clunky way of putting out, admittedly.

Let's look at it this way - in terms of assists in the League, he's obviously seriously good (especially for a full-back) but since 18/19 and 19/20 he has been in double figures for League assists once - and last season it was 4 assists in the League.

That's no knock at him, but if (huge if) he is looking a major boost to his contract, I can see some merit in questioning how high we go. It isn't our money, so in a sense we don't care, but if we have him (speculating here) Ł300k-per-week or something, as a right-back, then it has the potential to open doors for others demanding bigger contracts - and we know what's coming with PSR, plus how FSG work in terms of outlay and data.

Someone like Salah merits huge wages because of the very tangible contribution in terms of goals+assists and I am sure the genuine data nerds will have quantifiable projections for how many less goals we concede as a result of Van Dijk on the pitch though.

Trent though....it's trickier. He certainly isn't the best (defensive) right-back in the World, isn't as press-resistant as some players and isn't bagging loads of goals. He also isn't being used in the same way as he was when Robbo and Trent were super high and wide at times under Klopp, so potentially could have less attacking output than when he had peaked.

Slot seems to be making him a more conventional right-back, which could very well be a deliberate strategy in case Trent leaves, as you can find a right-back replacement for a deeper-lying right-back more easily - whereas trying to replace 18/19 and 19/20 Trent is much harder.

In terms of the ability to contribute in both boxes, aka actions leading to clean sheets (Van Dijk) and actions leading to goals (Salah) those 2 players just seem to be more pivotal to us than Trent is - even if pretty much all of us would massively prefer that he stayed.

That's my take on it at least.
