Just a throwaway comment for everyone, but I just thought the way Trent celebrated Nunez’s first goal with such joy against Brentford, and the way he celebrated with Gakpo for his second goal on Sat, I must say it looked like Trent of old… not saying it actually means anything.. but if nothing else it was nice to see all the same…

Yep he doesn’t know where his next £10,000,000 is coming from 😜

Excuse the joke - agree with you, it was heartwarming to see

After 22 games last year we led both Cituae & Arsenal by 5 points. Cituae had a game in hand on us.
Cituae won their game in hand so after 22 games we led them 2 points and Arsenal by 5 as I see it.

    • After 22 games this year, we've a 9 point lead on both Arsenal & Forrest. Arsenal won their 23rd game & Forrest lost theirs. We play Bournemouth away in ours, and should be back on same games played soon in PL after a few cup games.

    • We're doing better than ourselves last year. If we win our 23rd game this year, we'll be 5 points better off than after 23 games last year. We lost our 23rd game last year away at Arsenal 3-1.

    • We're doing better against our title rivals also. +4 points better compared with Arsenal last year after 22 games each. Cituae were 2 points behind us last year after 22 games played each. This year they were 15 points off, and 12 off after their 23rd game. .

    • We have conceded more this year, largely down to Konate being out and our keeper/s not bettering the XG like they did last year. In attack it's much of a muchness. Scored a few more from less shots. Less shots = Darwin

Only Jota has underperformed his Expected Goals in the PL to date from our attacking 5.

Gakpo has been most clinical of the 5 in the PL by that metric
    #❤️Gakpo

Diaz puts in a shift off the ball and the CF role isn't getting much XG in general, something to consider imo.

The comparisons of Salah & Ronny at Madrid are appropriate in terms of Salah being the main man. Getting loads of XG and goals, always available to play and others accommodating our main man off the ball. Salah works harder than Ronny did tbc.

What's funny about this season, is Jota the Slotta is our least clinical attacker in the PL which barely gets a mention, and the only underperforming department by the stats compared with last year is goalkeeper. Hopefully big bear gets back on top form and we see his usual impact over the remainder of the season.

The backing off to our own area too much hasn’t helped Big Bear nor has our defending differently in general he’s playing an entirely different game from all his other seasons with us

I don’t expect most to see that, but that’s the truth of the matter, most miss a lot of the small details in actual player positioning & movement that affect things stats don’t even touch upon

    Alisson’s the far superior keeper

As a pretty simple explanation it’s pretty hard to maintain being the world’s best sweeper keeper when your defenders are all being instructed to drop off & invite the opposition into your box so there’s no sweeping to do

But thanks for illustrating my point on ppl not seeing what should be crystal clear differences in how we’re defending and it’s not better

Same with Robbo, dropping off & sitting having to allow his man to pick the ball up easy & run at our defence isn’t his game

Not enough aggressive front foot defending making opposition players go where we want them to or stopping them getting on the ball in the first place

In the Slot style we invite them into our box & keep giving them free shots on goal with the entire goal to aim at, not restricting the amount of the goal they have to aim at far too often, that’s a defending issue not a keeper issue

In Klopp’s defending they were always forced one way or another Alisson & the other defenders always on the same page ready to snap into a tackle or in Alisson’s case arrive to smother at their feet as they tried to go past the player the only direction they could

Not making angles for him as they used to either, restricting the area of the goal they have to aim at, we always did that under Jurgen, and didn’t swing a leg at it in case we deflected it past Big Bear one g with the amount of goal we’d given them to aim at Big Besr would almost always save it

These are huge differences, how many gave we let in from retreating into our own box going zonal & far too passive & not making angles angle or on quite a few occasions letting a player run across our player to finish because they’re now asked to stop off & go zonal in those situations? A fair few, almost all of them
