If he's leaving it would be for nothing less than 300 million and yes, Real are just about the only club that would be able to afford him at that rate.
(Plus, he would most likely want to go play for Zidane if anyone).
Though City can also probably afford that, I doubt they'll be wanting to splurge that sort of amount in this post-pandemic era so soon after having had their ban lifted and lots of scrutiny on what they do.
I guess there's also possibly a world in which they work out a swap deal with Barca in January with Messi heading for a reunion with Neymar one way and Mbappe going the other and maybe some additional players to make the difference with no cash involved.
Their wages would likely match up too, and it would be a great deal for Barca (IMO), trading Messi's waning last years for a player to truly rebuild your team for the next decade around.
