The 'ruckus' occurs (and rightly so) when we only buy young and/or 'bargain bin' players (if we actually buy anyone at all) namely as a result of our owners being tight, and because they hope that a few of those players come good and can be sold for a tidy profit. This is compounded when it's obvious that we also, if not entirely need both proven quality and experienced heads, as shown perfectly with what happened when we bought VVD and Alisson.
I've always said that you need a mix of up and coming youngsters, good experienced players, a few bargain buys, and a few 'top tier' signings. Our issues stem from our owners reluctance to spend on all of those things, never mind that they tend to go with the cheapest/least guaranteed of those options i.e. up and coming youngsters (most of whom won't make the grade), and 'bargain bin' signings.
