think we need 2 top midfielders to get anywhere not just 1

then are upcoming star hopefully in midfield can go and get some game time for another club

2 top midfielders, one youngster that can rotate and won't cost the earth

Milner Keita ox, all leave, henderson to play Milners role, thiago to be rotated, fabinho.. well to sort himself out or sell.

more likely to end up with 1 and keeping the same players...

Interesting take on our potential scenarios this summer… ranging from a ‘Dream’ to a ‘Realistic’ one and even featuring a ‘Nightmare’ … aargh!

What do you expect us to do this summer?

“We're in good hands and we know about responsibility. The moment you build a team doesn't mean you do it new every year. It's not worrying that other teams can spend, it's a fact so we have to react to that as well.”

“I can't see investment stopping in the future, so that means we have to do it as well. I believe in coaching, developing and team building 100%. But meanwhile the managers out there, they are all good and they believe in that as well. So if they start spending then if we don't spend you will have a problem. I am not sure Chelsea can do that for the next 10 years though.”

    Jurgen Klopp… 20th January 2023

Take from that what you will.

10 years in football is a very long time.
Maybe Spurs or Ev might win a trophy.

In all seriousness, most clubs see 4 year cycles.
Klopp got it so right with the team 2018- 2020 that when and why change it... ?

Right now it still has 13 key players from that era.
4 could be moving on next summer.

Only the forward line has seen big significant changes.

The defence the same (except konate)
    Midfield too (except Thiago)

As we all have been saying x2 new 22yo to 25yo midfielders (Bellingham 19yo playing like a 25yo)
    A new centre back.
As for TAA , are Gomez and Ramsay real competition?

When new players come in , it freshens up the squad, the mind.
I remember Thiago first week at the club, Milner was like wooh!

The forward line is fine for the next 3 years. Bobby who knows if he stays.
Salah 2 or 3 good seasons left.

The defence needs a new centre back to cover Matip / VVD.
Phillips and Gomez aren't good enough.
The trouble with that is they are both homegrown.

    £75k a week. Poor Mason.

Liverpool need a midfielder, so let's link him to Liverpool to put 'fear' into Chelsea.

Unbelievable bollox, amazing how many times Liverpool linked with xyz .

And out of the blue comes a signing.
    Gakpo
    Diaz
    Fabinho

I bet the targeted midfielders , are ones that are not mentioned.
Of the 50 rumours , 1 will be signed.

It is a weird situation at the moment.

    10 days left in January.
I guess it's make do with keita and Artur .
Oxlade doesn't even make the midfield.
And shouldn't be near the front 3.
Much prefer seeing Carvalho or Elliott instead of Ox.

We are reportedly in talks with Firmino over a new contract (Fabrizio Romano)
Klopp is quoted as wanting both Firmino and Milner to extend their contracts.

Well the foreign player quota is full so even if we were willing to spend £200m this window that would be the case anyway - we need a player sale to facilitate - Klopp's unlikely to terminate Arthur's loan as he's a loyal guy and will know that players don't WANT to get injured - we gave Ox that contract extension while he was out for example when in reality (brutal, I know) we shouldn't have, much as it was very admirable in a sense.

That's the sad truth. Looking very unlikely anyone comes in as the two sick notes aren't going to leave right now and forfeit a second career fortune.
Like you say nobody wants to be injured but it's absolutely right today those two have robbed the club, they could and should have done more. There's definitely question marks over certain players and their willingness. Sturridge was always accused of it.

The current situation really highlights the mismanagement of the squad in terms of contracts over the last year or two. There's people who should have moved on and are still there. We all love and appreciate Milner but he was given a years stay because we were in a pickle yet again and also because of loyalty, I don't think there's any question about that.

Sometimes I do think Klopp has a sentimental aspect to him, he'd deny it obviously as he said so the other day when he gets as questioned about loyalty. He's kept that core group together for much longer than other clubs/management teams would and one hand its a good thing but on the other it's 100% holding us back now
The one thing Ferguson never gave in to was sentimentality, he refreshed his squad constantly even when others raised eyebrows. He built three truly great sides because of that mantra.

One solution is to let Philips go and bring in Declan Rice. Just break the bank for him.
