Gakpo, is a young lad, but he really doesn’t look like being a world beater, not just yet. Put it this way… He is showing that he ticks multiple boxes, rather than genuinely worrying defences. Only Diaz really has shown that top level ability and he has sustained a bad double occurrence injury.
Bobby is a goner at the end of this season and Jota is massively struggling for goals.. Salah isn’t getting younger and his form in light of the above has naturally dipped too. A front line full of big question marks..
At the back - Konate can look decent in some games and like a headless chicken in others. He is the single (so called senior) addition at CB since Lovren was sold. Like the front line - The star man (Virgil) is no longer performing at close to his level and his side kick (Matip) looks physically washed up.
So the midfield which has been brutally neglected is going to have to step up. Going into next season… unless there are significant investments into the middle and back, we could be looking at a similar season to this only without European football at all.
I know where you are coming from Steveo, but that 'potential' you have mentioned cost £200m to assemble. It's not an insginifcant amount.
Again, the money has been spent. Has it been spent wisely recently?
