Linked with some Colombian centre half on sky.

'Liverpool make contact over Colombian defender Mantilla'

Liverpool have made contact with Argentinean side CA Talleres over Colombian prospect Kevin Mantilla, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The report says Talleres' president Andres Fassi has spoken to the Reds about the defender - although Brighton have done the same.

The 20-year-old only joined Talleres last summer from Colombian side Independiente Santa Fe but Liverpool are said to have been tracking the player for some time, while recognising potential work visa obstacles.

But it is claimed a January move appears unlikely with Fassi indicating he would not be entertaining a move just a few months after bringing Mantilla.....

Liverpool loanees are being recalled as the club manage a mid season injury crisis, particularly in defence.

Young right back Calvin Ramsay has returned to the Anfield club, as have centre backs Rhys Williams and Billy Koumetio.

Although boss Jürgen Klopp is gambling that the Reds can manage without Rhys Williams who is off to ply his trade with league one Port Vale.

Sounds like claims of a potential 3rd injury crisis in 4 seasons from within the club

Looking at the players unavailable- it would seem to ring true…

    1.Poor fitness department?

    2.Overworked players?

    3.Lack of squad depth?

    4.Coincidence?

A number of the loaners have been recalled because they weren’t playing rather than being integrated into the first team squad. This applies to Carvalho, Ramsay, Williams and Koumetio.

Left back Owen Beck is the only one I can think of, who was recalled for cover

Liverpool want to keep Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara but the 32-year-old is attracting interest from Brazilian side Flamengo and Al-Ettifaq of the Saudi Pro League. (Teamtalk)

Why would we keep him?? hes not gonna ever play again is he? if he does be no more than 4/5 games. let him go for free.. let someone else pay his wages.. if we get a fee all the better

Besides the obvious that it could just be a click-baity article, it could be that someone within the staff wants to keep him, while others don't.

If I recall correctly Klopp wanted to keep Milner on for another year, whereas some others didn't - presumably due to not wanting to hold onto someone whose star would fade, no matter how much everyone loves his consummate professionalism - and whose presence would mean less game time for lads who can contribute to the future of the club.

With Thiago, I can envisage one or two wanting to have him around due to the fact that he has excellent technique (that younger lads could observe close-hand in training) multi-lingual capacity and the fact he has won so much, so would be full of those pearls of wisdom and would be listened to by younger lads.

Personally as a think-for-the-future fan I wouldn't keep him - unfortunately his (lack of) availability just doesn't align with his big wage packet and we could be paying someone else with those funds. Of course there's that tiny nag that if we let him go, he ends up having a season where he is available for 70% of it, but we just can't be worrying about stuff like that.
