Cleaning up the Scots since the 13th century
Glenn Murray on BBC:
“I’m sure Manchester City will know they have a fight on their hands.”
Hold on, which side are 5 points clear at the top? Was sure it was us but apparently we’re just the plucky underdog prepared to give City a “fight”.
The average age within the squad has improved drastically with some of the change in recent seasons. Only one forward over-30, only 2 midfielders over-30 with one likely to leave, two centre-backs over-30* but at a time when one has broken through in Quansah - it's all looking encouraging. So many of the lads under-30 are 20-26 as well, with most looking like talents and most looking like they aren't particularly injury-prone.
If we keep bringing lads through and compliment it with more signings then the squad is going to look great. Massive, massive credit also to Jürgen for utilising the 5-subs rule in such a way that players are getting rest/rotation opportunities while youngsters get chances.
I had to laugh at the idiot Bournemouth fans who laughed at the miskick from Jota. less than a second later they weren't laughing any longer
Cleaning up the Scots since the 13th century
To be fair I think most pundits would back a side that is going for a 4th League title on the spin, plus has a game in hand, making it (probably) a 2-point gap - plus has less injured players than us.
They're still favourites. It could be that Glenn was showing bias/favouritism but a lot of folks would put their money on Man City until we do something like open up a 7-point gap with both sides having played the same number of games.
We all know they can win 14 games straight or whatever.
He’s been doing that in most of his games to lesser extent with the passing because Trent & Szlobo & Gravenberch (lots less but notable) have been contributing with the ball too His positional play & reading of it has been excellent
It’s a status quo thing, people don’t see it because they prefer this stereotypical DM who doesn’t read it as well pick pockets & throws themselves into crunching tackles when in a pressing and counter pressing system you shouldn’t be having to do regularly if you’re doing it right
Jurgen was pretty much ripping the piss out of the ppl who’ve been knocking Mac there in his post match pretty much saying everything I’ve been saying about Mac & the position in how we play for getting close to 10 years now
Mac does absolutely class things without the ball as a No6 all the time because as Jurgen says “He’s a super smart player” I like the ‘blind press’ he does as it’s something I used to love doing that barely anyone does, reading it seeing the pass coming waiting even appearing not to see it or be interested for kidology then as soon as that pass is released WHOOSH acceleration to the recipient who doesn’t even see you coming to nick it off him, not a crunching tackle you lot like a firm block tackle & nicking it
Mac does that a few times a game successfully proactive brilliant reading and position & super smart
He was great last night - hence Klopp's enthusiasm. But let's be frank.. he has often been well below the levels required. Just because he was superb last night doesn't mean he was superb when he wasn't. We have actually been losing games where he was sent off or taken off and gone on to win.
Isn't "doing that in most of his games to lesser extent" another way of saying what I said...?
It's great that everyone is chipping in with hot streaks and we're not relying on one player.
Aye… There’s no ‘i’ in team… I think..?![]()
Klopp has worked the magic again. Whatever happens they look like a genuine group who are in it together.
