The so-called "best team in the world" (touted by some) and absolutely shite at penalties.
Those two saves were two of the WORST penalties I've ever seen taken in a penalty shootout in a game of such importance.

The old saying goes that if you dominate the game but fail to win it in regular time or extra time, you'll almost certainly lose it in penalties.
It held true for this game at least.
Something to do with the psychology of not having been able to pull it through and beat the goalie in normal time and still having it play in your head as you take the kicks, while the other team totally dominated during the normal frame, gets that extra boost of confidence to go into the spot kicks.
The irony of the former Chelsea player being the one to knock them out is an added bit of knife-twisting.
