There are an awful lot balls that need to fall into place for a draw to open the way it has (and has for the last few tournaments). Seems a bit convoluted to me.

Surely if there was anything nefarious going on it would have just been easier to bribe England's direct opposition.

At a glance I would say yes you have a point, but when you realise that England are worth far and away more than any other nation in terms of revenue …value to tournament (sponsors - organisers - hosts - competition - eyeballs advertising) and you then see the repeated and incredible missing of any hurdles. Watching the far more stellar sides smashing into each other group stage after group stage. Knockout round after knockout round…. surely you have to ask the question..?
