Flip, you're right - if only we could spend money like Man United - their transfer strategy over the last decade of over-spending on players, handing out over-inflated wages before players have earned them and continuing to ignore key holes in the squad had been a roaring success.

We do spend - in our case we prioritise wages to keep the squad together - hence a £366m-per-year wage bill in 22/23 - but I get that this doesn't excite like shiny new toys. Though if you like new players, we bought FOUR midfielders not very long ago - one of them currently a Copa America and World Cup holder, acquired for much less than an 18-year old player who might become the next Ferdinand or might become the next Mangala.

Prefer our strategy to theirs - massively.

Only reason he went to United because no one else was willing to pay the cash for him. 170 grand a week for an 18 year old?? i doubt 90% of our squad is on that..

    Indeed.

To my recollection (very happy to be corrected) it's Salah, Virgil and Trent that are on wages above that mark.

I think (?) the rest are at £150k-per-week (like Mac Allister and perhaps surprisingly to some, Gravenberch) or £140k-per-week (like Núñez and I think Alisson!) or are on lower figures - think our average across the squad works out at something like £87k-per-week, which is partly down to some youth lads being on (comparatively) low wages.

That’s serious wages for an 18 year old with just one full year under his belt as a pro in the French League.

Man United have agreed to pay an initial £52 million for an 18-year-old, with one full season of senior football under his belt, who only had a year left on his contract.

And per Sky Germany‘s Florian Plettenberg, the Manchester club have offered to pay Yoro a starting wage of £113,000 per week, rising to £145,000 per week inclusive of bonuses.

Sky already creaming over Yoro because he helped keep the mighty rangers out.

rather have him than not have him mind, maybe we'll have a better find and value.....

    Maybe.

Another one bites the dust …

Paris St-Germain have agreed to sign Benfica's Portugal midfielder Joao Neves, 19, for 60m euros (£50.56m), plus 10m euros (£8.42m) in add-ons, with Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches, 26, moving the other way on loan. (Fabrizio Romano)

We were linked with Sanches quite heavily at one time. Dodged a bullet there.

Man United with bids for De Ligt and Mazraoui.

Both played at Ajax and neither went on to match the huge expectations that folks had for them.

If they join, they'll fit right in.

Yoro seems to be their only proper signing thus far and they’re not seriously linked with anyone who concerns me
