To be fair it was widely reported that Klopp pushed for Endo - a few journos retweeted as such and I think Klopp himself was quoted.
Would make sense as he very much falls outside the 23-26 "on the cusp" mould we go for.
I actually really like Endo, but the lack of pace is an issue and seemingly for Slot the inability to receive the ball and redistribute quickly on the half-turn (which seems to be what Arne is after) is admittedly absent.

The geezer destroyed us at Old Trafford - twice. If there were a couple of incidents that ended our season those 2 games. He did an admirable job in a Klopp system. Truth is many players with the right work ethic could do the same - but the lad just isn’t at the level.
