Slot will be looking for a ball-playing, Busquets-esque number 6 rather than a destroyer and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him use one or both of those players throughout the season as part of a double-pivot.

Real Madrid probably have told Martin to run his contract down and go to them for nothing. That way he gets to stay at his boy hood club and carry on collecting his €50,000 a week. We look like bleeding muppets again.

Bet FSG are gutted they can’t spend the Ł51m and bring a player in on big wages.

Noticias de Gipuzkoa (Basque paper) have previously reported on Martin having turned down -

    - Bayern
    - Barcelona
    - Arsenal

    - and now us as well.

Maybe he does go to Real Madrid. Or maybe he is a Totti/Gerrard/Reus who had his head turned because he is talented enough to have a "better" career and people around him encouraging him to shoot for the stars.

Gerrard definitely gave Chelsea very serious thought. Also had phone calls with Mourinho when Jose was at Inter and again at Real.

One-club players happen, so wouldn't rule it out. Important thing for us now is to focus on getting some business done - Slot will want to see evidence that the current set-up works and Hughes (thus far) isn't off to a great start - so we need to knuckle down.

    Don’t forget folks…

‘Liverpool owner John Henry has said FSG now have their “hands full” after their Ł2.3 billion investment into the PGA Tour boosted their portfolio across five different sports.

    He’s a busy man

Imagine this. They don't sign anyone, particularly a number 6 and a game or two I to the season Macallister gets an injury.
Best of luck with that midfield Arne.

We are now desperate and everyone knows it.

I never believed he was coming to us and I don’t believe the club really believed it either, which is why they let it be known we had approached them, rather like the imaginary money put to one side for Caicedo.

    Was never gonna happen

    Really poor from the club.
    Absolutely bang on.
It's not the fact he's turned us down at all. It's the fact they waited this long. Like they only saw him in that second half in that Euro final.
    They're a fucking joke.

This is the 2nd time in theast windows we have done this. Waited too long, got rejected by the player. In January we ended up with Endo. Let's see what happens now for the remainder of the window.

King Edwards is back though. Also, no word on 3 contracts that need sorting. Imagine what those players are thinking.
