    Fingers crossed for him.
Not seeing the first refusal part Sid, but hopefully we'll make a further few bob on him down the line...

Robertson is 31 in March I think and Tsimikas is 29 in......May or June (?) so definitely worth looking at left-back quite soon if we want to be proactive rather than reactive.

Fuck knows how we will fund replacements for Salah/Virgil and Trent.. since they will all likely go on a free. maybe thats why we are saving up the cash??would be easier to get them to sign another 2 seasons. Jesus H Christ what a damn mess we are in.. Looking at our forward line. Diaz will probably go next summer.. Nunez may get a long ban. so may go next summer. leaves us with Jota whos never fit and Gakpo.this season really is a transition season. seems like the club have DECIDED this..

    Cheers Justin.

It's so difficult for young players. I think he has made 13 or 14 senior appearances for us at 19 and Harvey Elliott will probably have clocked up 130 or so before Christmas and he's still only 21 - so few "make it" at our level, but he can still have a very good career in his way. Who knows, may even become one we regret selling later on.

Very best of luck to him going forward.

Just read elsewhere about the first refusal part Sid. Good man, looks like you were spot on...

Clarke will be the first of a few fringe/youth players to exit this window. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Doak go too.

Doak's one I find tricky to call.

On one hand, I look at him and think "what a player!" and I am desperately keen to see him develop.

On the other hand, I see the raw pace he has used so often and I just wonder if he has been a touch over-reliant on that natural athletic ability and perhaps hasn't developed as much "trickery" as he should to beat players that stand up to him if we faced a low block. A bit like (and this feels a very harsh comparison, but am using it because he came to mind first) a forward version of an Alberto Moreno, if you like.

My instinct is to hold onto him at the club and loan him out, though am so conscious that it's
probably harder for youth lads to break through in the forward positions of the pitch than almost anywhere else.

I think the proactive ship sailed a while ago.

window is proving it, and the contracts situation

I tend to take it on a case-by-case basis as we make some good calls and some shit calls.

I'd say I'm in general agreement with you though that we have been more reactive than proactive for a while, to our detriment.

The big midfield acquisition window of last season consisted largely of good business regarding the individual acquisitios, but was a reaction to us failing to future-proof in time before then. We forced ourselves into drastic action rather than planning ahead. We need to do better.

A move like the Mamardashvili business (if we pull it off) is really smart work and is how we should look forward. It shows forward-thinking rather than the likes of the Endo scramble, or (further back) the Ozan Kabak window. We need to do that more. I do wish we were doing it for a different position mind.

We didn't need to bring in anyone if the idea was to just generate funds.

Do you genuinely believe Edwards would come back if all he was brought in to do was penny pinch?
