When are we going to hear news on the Salah, Virg and Trent contracts..

All 3 played well today, and are arguably our 3 best outfield players. We'd be mad to not tie them down.

Given that we are about to sell VDB for about £20M+ and have sold Carvalho for a similar figure and have received approx £8M for the Solanke transfer to Spurs, is there an argument that we use these funds of almost £50M to finance extended contacts for both Virg and Salah…

Because in real terms, these two players were never going to make the first team, and so in effect Brentford / Bayer Leverkusen will be financing these deal extensions rather than LFC… which has to be classed as a win/win situation.

Also, given that Virg and Salah are rightly recognised as being the best in their position by some margin as we speak, even if over the next two seasons they do drop off in terms of performance and the data, can it be argued that even if their performances drop off by lets say 15%, surely they are still going to be considered to be as one of the best in their position even if they are not the outright best….

Or are the Data guys of the opinion that their form is going to plummet like a stone, much like Henderson, Gini, Fabinho, Firmino, Oxlade etc etc and we are going to have two high earners on our books who ultimately will be not good enough to remain in the squad… and we would actually be better off simply not renewing their contracts, signing new players, and ultimately spend £150M + on the gamble that the new signings will be better than the potentially diminished versions of both Virg and Salah…

Personally, I am in the camp of “Better the devil you know” rather than “ The grass is greener “… and I think more than anyone else, Virg and Salah deserve to be given the benefit of the doubt… so I would give them both a 2yr extension with an option of another year…

However, maybe just maybe, thats why I am just on this forum, expressing my thoughts and I am not on the Anfield payroll… ���� ..

Love the thinking here. Other clubs financing our big contracts. The reality is that VVD and Salah will need replacing soon. I'm not against giving both a 2 year extension but it only kicks the can down the road for 1 year if we want to recoup any money on them. As you say they'll still be good enough and as importantly it buys Slot some time. But beware, Edwards does not like giving out contracts to players over 30.

Seems absolutely crazy considering the clubs standing in terms of commercial revenue and appeal but it is what it is. 60m on three players who barely kicked a ball for us is good business though it has to be acknowledged.
Hopefully now a good chunk of that is going on a new defender. I don't see it but I'd love to sign Branthwaite. Imagine the furore. Blue lolz allover.

We bid £111m for Caicedo during the window last Summer.

Later in the same window, we spent money on Gravenberch and Endo - fees of £38m and £16m - so if we go with a massively, massively oversimplified version of events, £57m of it would have been left, as we committed £54m on two new midfielders.

Not that it works like that, as each deal is structured differently.

Worth adding too that within around 10 days of each other, we were working on the groundwork for Mamardashvili, a £30m net fee (£75m for Gordon, recoup £45m for Gomez) on Gordon and the £51m buy-out for Zubimendi.
