Given Alexander-Arnold’s current contract expires next summer, an exit in the winter window would be Liverpool’s final chance to collect a fee. However, when speaking on his YouTube channel, trusted reporter Fabrizio Romano put a different view forward.

Romano insisted that as of now, Alexander-Arnold is giving priority to signing a new contract at Anfield. Of course, that does not mean that a new deal will be agreed, but it does mean the ball is in Liverpool’s court and a deal is there to be made. It also means Marca’s claim Liverpool already know their right-back will leave appears to be wide of the mark.

As many on social media saying he’s staying as going.

No one knows but Trent and his Agent.

Personally get the feeling that he and the club are waging in a game of chicken as the contract draws to a close.

I wouldn't be fussed if we lost him to Real, to be honest.

While he's great going forward and sometimes has almost Xabi-esque delivery with his deadball deliveries and his crosses, he's also unquestionably the worst defender in our starting lineup - and that's including the holding midfielders that often have to do double-duty covering for his screwups.

In fact, he's even the worst defender at the club at HIS position as Bradley, while raw is arguably more dependable in most situations (.....which might be why Slot seems to love bringing him on for Trent late in games when we need to hold leads), and Gomez is bizarrely better at playing the fullback positions than he is at his natural centerback role.

It's not secret in the league that if you want to beat us you need a pacy winger who'll stretch the defence and hug the touchline as much as possible since Trent is so loathe to go wide to cover an open winger and frequently drifts to the center which is daft given how it unbalances us an creates so much space for opposition attackers to run into.
He gets skinned frequently, is often careless with the ball giving away possession when under no pressure and if he's not having a great game going forward, then he's practically a passenger.

Having said all that, he's obviously a local hero and some of our fans will hear none of the club letting him go - even though the more prudent decision would be to let him go and give Bradley a better chance to develop further and cement that position as his own as our rightback of the future while we try to get some decent cover for him.

It wouldn't surprise me if he left, claiming he really wanted to stay but the club wasn't willing to come to terms - only for it to later be revealed that he wanted a salary bump that the club (rightly) wasn't willing to meet.

Between the three, and despite the ages involved, I'd much rather we held on to Mo and Virg than Trent.
    Just being honest.

They are both unquestionably more indispensible in their roles for the club than he is for me.

I would be gutted personally IF it does happen, not because I think the club should be held to ransom..I don't think they should... but because he is such a super talent, a local lad who loves the club and the city through and through. I don't want to see him in a Real Madrid shirt - it's the ex girlfriend scenario I know but that's the truth.

Crazy to think we could lose him for nothing too..

And this is why citing Real Madrid as an example of a 'successful low net spend' is akin to an oxymoron.

There are many other examples outside of Madrid.

In the thread I have posted on this topic you have failed to muster a response of note, I have compared your man Artetanal with Villas Emery. Villa outperforming lfc & arsenal under Emery. This is me following logical analysis, it allows me to show Villa's better performance in trading players.

I accept that a 33, 34 and 35 year old VVD and Salah are not going to be on the same level as in their pomp, lets be honest VVD and Salah have set such high bars, is that a fair comparison, whilst they might not be as good..

The question is, given there will obviously be a drop off, how good will the lesser versions of both be, when compared to players in the past at their prime and any potential replacements… who are not guaranteed to be as reliable and effective as the lesser versions of VVD and Salah..

For example, it can be argued VVD is probably just past his prime, but is the current VVD still better than Carra ever was in his prime and is the current Salah who is also just past his prime still more effective than almost every other winger we have had in their prime in the past 20 years …

On that basis, and given what they have done for our club in previous years, and what they can still deliver, I believe they still both deserve new 2 yr contracts and I am sure it will be money well spent.

However, if both players do fall off a cliff in terms of performance levels during their contract, more likely to be Salah rather than VVD, I am sure the Saudi League or the MLS will still be interested in offering them a way out…

Trent has his own decision to make, stay and become a club captain and lifetime legend in the same bracket as Gerrard, Carra and Callaghan or leave for the bright lights and success of Madrid and just simply taint his current legacy just like MO and Macca did..

Very close to two of each as well.

Incredible how he keeps on churning out those numbers.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has said he has opened talks with the club about signing a new deal.

The 33-year-old has been with the club since January 2018 and his current contract runs out at the end of the season.
