At this rate we’ll need 7 or 8 new ‘quality’ players in the summer.

No chance FSG are going to pump that much money into the squad. Not when they have other projects that take priority.

    New LB but keep Robertson
RB if Trent leaves (kind of hope he does)
    CB
    DM
    Isak
    Kulesevski

Sell Nunez definitely, Jota as a squad player i don't mind despite his injuries,

Van Dijk has to be priority to stay,

To get outgoing fees I would be tempted to sell Elliot as he would get a good price as a English player, It would be between him and Jones but I just think Jones offers more and has progressed more.

I'd let Jones go if we could find a more consistent player. hes 24 now and should be showing more than he does. at times hes excellent. but he goes off the boil to often for my liking.

Gomez will probably leave.but then again we won't get what we want for him now. so he'll stay.. Another 1 that can't walk never mind run these days.

Be easier to say who i want to stay..

    Alisson
    Konate
    Virgil
    Bradley
    Robertson
    Gravenberch
    Mac Allister
    Szoboszlai
    Salah
    Jota
    Gakpo
Im undecided on Diaz. Hes not scoring enough right now. he was doing well earlier on in the season. Guess if he can get his total goals up to 15/16 by the end of the season in the league. i may stick with him.

I know some want Trent to stay. But if you look at his all over his performances over the last 2 seaons. They'd been nowhere near the standard he set.but to be fair to lad the amount of assists he gave to the forwards previously was out of this world.. In the last two seasons hes got way worse defensively.
Saying all this, if he wants too stay. Im also fine with it.

We love letting players leave on a free

It's almost like we're rich and not bothered if players go for free
It's just part of the model. There will be instances where it's the right thing to do and instances where we will be up in proverbial arms about it.

As players get older (and particularly those over 30) they tend to want wage increases. It comes down to that word "value" again - with lads like Diaz or Núñez for example (who aren't currently scoring loads) we're not going to increase their contract so that their average output (in terms of goals and assists) costs even more than currently and when it comes to older players (like when Matip was here) you have that increased risk of injury (paying out fortunes more often for someone who is unavailable a lot) or someone entering a decline (imagine we pay Salah £450k-per-week and then he has a big drop-off like Ronaldo did) so you end up over-paying - then next thing you know everyone is at their agent saying "well if player X is only performing this well, I deserve a pay rise" etc etc etc and we limit our ability in the transfer market, all whilst dealing with PSR and UEFA's squad cost stuff - and previously FFP.

In short, by not offering some lads contract increases (and instead letting them go on a free) you are often ticking the boxes of saving money in the long-term whilst decreasing risk of a drop-off in the squad. Lads like Van Dijk and Salah seem obvious exceptions to the rule to us all on here (they don't look like losing their ability overnight or suddenly being injury-prone) and I think we'd all like to see them extended, whereas I think the queue of people who'd want to extend someone like Robbo would be much shorter, despite him having been an excellent servant to the club overall.

All about risk management and of course some wrong calls will be made and/or our model (or aspects of our model) will be scrutinised. I like our model overall, but would definitely like to see tweaks and inevitably mistakes about contracts will be made, just as mistakes about transfers constantly occur in the game at large. Same with sales - I remember there was a window where we had £12.5m for 2 of our players (think it was Phillips and Ox but can't recall right now) and we wanted £15m - ended up keeping both and then they ended ycontributing little. How I wish we'd taken the 2 x £2.5m "hits" (only £5m after all) and used the £25m to buy a player - but seemingly the club doesn't want to budge on valuations to ensure we aren't seen as pushovers, which might (????) be the best decision overall.

Sometimes you might want to extend someone's contract to protect their value (makes sense) but then nobody comes in with an offer you'd take and you end up constantly paying out to someone who isn't even playing for you.

    Keep:
    Allison
    Robertson - keep as backup
    Van Dijk
    Konate
    Szobo
    Macca
    Grav
    Mo
Diaz - poor end product but still good threat and with another striker in the team there would be less pressure on him to score
    Gakpo
Jota - useful squad player when fit
    Bradley
Trent -if he wants to stay keep him. He's a class player going forward.
    Quansah
Gomez - useful squad player if back fit
    Jones/Elliot - keep one
    Endo - useful backup

Think that's it. Let the others go. We need about 4/5 incoming at least to bolster the team/squad. Next season may well be the transition season that we thought would happen this year.

We have 2 players for every position. So at the very minimum we will have to replace anyone who leaves.

Hopefully for some there will be an upgrade. For the 3 Amigos it is going to be a downgrade.

We'll also have to be mindful of the homegrown rule, so there may be a promotion or two for the some of the youngsters and a focus on English players.

Think McConnel and Doak will get more of a chance next season.

Kerkez, Guehi and Wharton would be a good start.
