Its fucking simple. hes an asset ..so if he doesnt sign we'll look to off load.. otherwise we'll let his contract run down..
when i say asset i don't mean as a player for the club . tis simple really. we don't wanna be giving a 26 year old a 5 contract at say 230/240 grand a week. theres no sell on for him when hes in his early 30s..
Its a common theme at this club. every player is looked at, at making money. They are not seen as human beings who are trying everything to win for this great club
Cleaning up the Scots since the 13th century
Currently it's looking like we're losing all the big three this summer.
Who knows who else after that?
It's also beginning to look like some of the ones that actually should be on their way out and getting offloaded, won't actually be going anywhere after all.
It'll take a brave club to take Darwin off our hands - let alone one that will pay anywhere near decent a fee to allow us to recoup some of what we paid for him.
He apparently had suitors from the Middle East during the January window but, as per usual, we blinked and kiboshed that deal.
Now we might be stuck with him.
And who's going to take the likes of a (perpetually crocked) Jota if we decided we wanted to move on from him and get someone more reliable.
And I don't see the likes of Jones, Elliot and increasingly even Szobo as anything more than squad players, and we need more than that right now.
We need people who can come into the starting lineup and make an immediate impact and not spend most of the time being invisible or doing the "running around like a headless chicken" bit.
And who knows about our FB situation (both flanks) that CB cover (doubly so if Virg goes, as is beginning to look like...) and that midfield 6 hole we'll apparently never address.
Lads,.......
I'm beginning to get the feeling that this Hughes fella is not all he's chalked up to be.
Edwards needs to have a word with his mate.
If we win the league this year I don't care if all 3 go. I don't think it right that players demand ever increasing amounts of money. It's got to the point where players should be questioned on where do they think the wages actually come from. The team needs a major overhaul and we've probably seen the best of Mo and Virge anyway. Trent may well improve but I think he has problems between the ears. No amount of coaching can rectify that deficiency.
The trouble with not playing the wages game is that you're never going to win, at least not consistently. It's like the possibility of have a PL wage cap. If such a thing was implemented it would just mean all the best players join leagues that are willing to pay the big bucks. It's no coincidence that the most successful teams are the ones with the biggest expenditure on player wages.
I would still like to hear players justify their wages. One week to earn the average man in the streets wages for 10 years
We do pay out quite well on wages to be fair and have a notoriously generous bonus structure. Players come in on slightly slower wages than some clubs - then get rewarded as they merit it.
Think we pay out around £136m or so per-year on our 25-man squad, but would need to dig and honestly not inclined just nowout in the cold.
Wouldn't surprise me if we have offered lower contracts to Salah and Van Dijk as their risk of injury increases with age - that's the sort of "unemotional" thing we would do.
So if Salah is on £350k-per-week now I'd not be surprised if he was offered between £275k-£300k-per-week as the chances of him contributing less with age (based on data on hundreds of players) looks likely on paper, whereas some of us would say "by miles our biggest goal threat, just give him £500k-per-week, he's earned it!" instead.
Interesting Summer ahead anyway and (whenever it happens) the succession planning of some of the players most heavily affiliated with success under Klopp (Alisson, Van Dijk, Robertson, Trent, Salah) will be very interesting.
You've 5 lads there that are either big stars or big personalities/influences (or both) that carry the DNA of that Klopp team. I think Mamardashvili and Kerkez (if he comes) would go a good way into making some of the huge loss up, but they're unlikely to be AS good as the originals and there's still 3 big gaps to address.
Interesting bit will be whether we can see out any period of "transition" whilst still maintaining a high level (remaining in the top three for example) or whether we are due another drop-off.
We have the second highest wage bill in the league according to Pearce. Couple that with a 57m loss last year and that's why hes pouring cold tea on any transfer expectations.
