How good or bad do you think our transfer activity will be this summer?

Most of the strikers we're linked with look to be an upgrade on Nunez and Jota so if we land one of them then that's a big plus but this talk of FSG going "big" is fucking laughable.
It gets trotted out every single summer.

FSG have a clear Transfer and business strategy, not one we all agree with, that’s for sure, but one they could argue has worked more often than not over their tenure…

We can all argue the fat over whether it only succeeded because of Klopp’s genius, rather than any merit being given to FSG, but I am sure they will argue that appointing Jurgen and now Slot, is all part of the very same strategy…

So with that in mind, I am not convinced either way, but I will settle for guessing that having committed significant funds to retain VVD and SALAH this Summers Transfer activity will end up being, just GOOD - to - SO SO… fingers crossed eh..��

The big issue with FSG's business model is just that, it's their 'business' model. They are largely, if not entirely focused on how much money we bring in and how much we are worth as an asset that they can use as collateral and then sell on in future for a humongous profit.

Make no mistake, FSG's approach to hiring managers is all about recruiting those who fit in with their business model. They aren't geniuses. They hired Klopp and Slott because they had both shown that they could bring success whilst not having a lot of money to spend on players, not because they have some kind of magical insight when it comes to who they hire.

The trouble with FSG's business model is that it is not conducive to having sustained success. Every single team that has had sustained success has looked to refresh and improve their team and squad season after season. Had we done the same it could be argued that we'd probably have won a few more trophies over the last decade including an additional number of the big two.

I have heard and read that in terms of things such as shirt sales and 'fan engagement', we are top of the pile. Given those kind of things, our recent successes, and the recent paucity when it comes to our transfer activity, there is no way that things such as renewing the contracts of VVD and Salah will have had any meaningful impact on what we can spend. That is even more the case given that a number of high earners such as TAA (£180k p/w), Chiesa (£150k p/w), Jota (£140k p/w), Nunez (£140k p/w) etc are either leaving the club, or are possibly going to be moved on, never mind that other first team players aren't on relatively big money e.g. Diaz is 'only' on £55k p/w, whilst Bradley is on £10k p/w.

The likes of Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea and even Newcastle aren't going away. Unless we are prepared to relatively go toe to toe with them when it comes to transfers, we're at best likely going to continue having intermittent success mixed in with off seasons and a fair few missed opportunities.

Given those things and our transfer activity, or should I say lack of it in recent years, I think we're going to have an underwhelming transfer window, one where big things were promised, but not much is delivered.

Don't think it's been so bad honestly.

The 23/24 window was a really good whack of business -

Szoboszlai - £60m
Mac Allister - £35m
Gravenberch - £34m
Endo - £16m

£145m spent there, not too shabby (yes, we recouped some, as most sensible clubs do) and in recent times we have secured the services of Van Dijk and Salah (who several insisted FSG would allow to leave on frees) and have somewhat future-proofed our goalkeeping situation by acquiring Mamardashvili.

Things aren't perfect, but I don't personally see a picture that gives me much reason for stress at the moment.

Key thing now will be to accept fees for certain players and use the money to reinvest, with the purse strings opened a touch to compliment that, given that we are doing fine with PSR. We could (technically) probably afford around a £200m net spend though I imagine a £50m net spend is more like what we will go for and if we sell well and this keep the net spend low (Ibe and Brewster say "hello") then I'm fine with that, provided the squad improves.

- Can a Kelleher fee help to part-fund an outfield player?
- Will the £300k-per-week that Trent was offered be put to intelligent use?
- Are any of our returning loanees able to contribute or indeed worth selling?
- Can a Chiesa sale top up funds for a younger, fitter depth/rotation player on the right to future-proof the right wing?
- Can the sale of Núñez or Jota help to create a big chunk of what would be a big fee on a forward?
- Can the youth/talent of Elliott merit a sale large enough to part-fund a physically more suited, top quality mid to help our best midfielders, reducing potential burnout?
- Will someone like Gomez stay or go?

There are certainly opportunities to be had this Summer and hopefully the relevant staff can push through on the business/recruitment side of things, providing Slot with suitable players to work with.

There will be a lot of money coming in through squad player sales.

Including Nunez, Kelleher, Doak, Tyler Morton, a left back and maybe Elliott. Up to £150m. So I will be shocked if we don’t bring in £200m plus of talent if we find buyers for all of the above

Leeds are suppose to be interested in both Kelleher and Tsimikas should bring in about 40 million..10/15 million Chisea.. 50 million for Nunez (if we are lucky) another 40 million for Elliot. so nice bit of business. lovely jubbly has Del boy would say..

It will have to be a near perfect window imo. We lack pace and youth in the side. The mentality that was instilled to the group - the group that just won our 20th title will need to be instilled in any future arrivals.. Can be done but remains to be seen.


Don't forget what it really took to get us there - and bar 2/3 crucial signings...it wasn't a great transfer policy (great managers have a habit of painting that picture) ...nearly as much as the man who re-programmed what was already here.

If we could do business like that again it would really set us in good stead for the next couple of seasons. To be honest I think it's vital that we bring in at least 3 quality players like the above this summer. Without it I could see us dropping down to a top 4/5 struggle.
