I think we should buy 2 other players rather than this lad if we genuinely have the sort of cash available. Guaranteed flop in prem imho.

Same i'm not sure about the flop bit i'll disagree

but when we need a extra body in midfield- a good option- not Elliot no offense... a CB and a striker.... yeah

can't see us getting much more apart from Kerkez..... just sales if we get him

It's a risk putting so much into one signing. On the other hand though, it does signal intent that we don't want to rest on our laurels and should make us more attractive to other potential players coming in. Would be great if we could have a strong season again and do well in CL hopefully that will help us to keep attracting players. We don't have the Klopp factor anymore and so potential players need to see that we're serious and that the manager has backing; that we're not a team whose best days are behind.

Edit: the frustrating part with the way Trent did his business is that we could have got a great fee for him which would have covered a lot of the Wirtz fee.
From the moment I picked your book up until I laid it down, I convulsed with laughter. Someday I intend on reading it. Groucho Marx

There is no such thing as a "guarantee" in football, but Wirtz is from the bracket of "as close as it gets" to one.

If it's in-and-around Ł120m then it's a big fee, no question - but another way of looking at that is that it's two Szoboszlais or 2.5 Keitas.

The goal isn't to buy players, it's to buy wins. Wirtz definitely "moves the needle" in our chances of getting wins, especially against the lower-to-mid table sides.

He doesn't have the best record against Bayern Munich for example so we might not get to be familiar with him getting winners against Man City, Arsenal etc but getting the job done against most of the League is where the vast majority of points are accrued.

We have a lot of assets to move on before any more incomings but we will recoup a lot of money for the 6 or 7 fringe players who will leave.
Elliott and Nunez alone would bring in around Ł90-Ł100m if they go.

I genuinely cant believe there are people grumbling about Wirtz's fee. We're spending money, you'd think it would appease most of the fanbase...

No really grumbling as such about the fee. I hope he comes and and blows the prem to pieces. He does look super talented. I just think it’s a very risky transfer for us. Then again we will need to replace Salah as the main man so maybe this sort of investment in a single star is necessary for that. Just nervous about it. Though admittedly my guaranteed to flop line was very hyperbolic.

I see the likes of Shearer and Micah Richards are questioning whether Wirtz will manage the physical game in the premier league,. they neglect to mention the German league ain't exactly weak when it comes to physicality . not the best standard all round in quality but still you have to be pretty strong physically.. Guess Micah ain't also mentioned the last several Man-city players that pep have signed seem to be struggling the PL>.such as Savinho and the defender they just bought in January.

Agree. Pair of absolute bitter wankers. Absolutely nailed on they'd be whistling a different tune had City or Arsenal bought him.
    It's pure bitterness.
The players City have signed are struggling because they're simply not good enough. Way below theur previous standards and a major reason they've slid back. Reijnders is another one, decent enough and looked okay at the Euros but not a top level midfielder.
