Is it 16 for us and 21 for them, with that being the most any side has?

I am not really arsed about the Community Shield, but I do very much like records. It would be nice to win the League or FA Cup a bit more often simply to have a chance to bolster our tally.

I always like to imagine a time where we are out in front on all fronts. That isn't happening any time soon with Big Ears as Real Madrid are so far out in front, but I'd like to think that over the next 10 years or so we could extend our League Cup lead, take the lead (and extend it) in the League and begin to improve our FA Cup record which isn't where it should be given our stature - same for the Community Shield despite it being a glorified friendly.

Yeah. I think I'm misremembering but it seemed that we'd get excited about United losing the charity shield only to win the league yet again.

Looking at records, between 98 and 07 United only won it once while still often being the team to beat in the league.

I use to hate it when some on here(that were here years ago) use to gloat when man-15th were losing or drawing and it always came back to bite them. cause Man-15th came back to win

Knew their record was poor in that spell but hadn't realised it was as poor as that - not that their fans will care one bit given their success in real competitions.

Similarly our 22/23 Community Shield match against Man City had this mad narrative around it in terms of our chances of competing against Man City and who had bought the better striker. Núńez came out on top in that individual match over Erling, but we went on to finish the season outside of the Champion's League spots, 22 points behind Man City.

Didn't see the whole game but eki looked good, frimpong looked good and wirtz did too. Its also only the charity shield. Most seasons fergie seemed to lose it and then go on to win the title! Much to our chagrin!
    Bit-part players

    Diaz?
did we plan to sell Jota if he didn't die?

people are sugarcoating this going oh boohoo we're getting rid of those we wanted to sell, but forgetting the 2 players that have been vital in attack for years for us..... granted jota didn't have his best season last year due to injuries too, doubt we planned to sell him, or diaz, who's better than gakpo, so that's a downgrade and we're missing a player.

we've literally got 3 attackers that we can depend on in 3 positions ffs. and we say we need a midfielder to give grav a rest?

not to mention the CB area

But let's all be positive and not think of these things, who knows we might sign isak in 3 weeks and might be upto speed and match fit in 10 games, at least that'll mean one player can rotate in the 3 positions who we can count on.

Why is it impossible to have a good first team, and some players that can fill in and do a good job? it's called Champions league winning team, that's what, look at PSG if we had half there bench I'd be happy.

Burned out a bit last season now you all expect us to have even less players out injured than last season, thought we did quite well on that front apart from the usual suspects... and win more ? from a number of options to a unproven striker really, first season in prem ffs, Gakpo and salah? not counting chiesa he never plays, is the 16 year old going to play for months every game if gakpo gets injured ?

One thing is for sure, we won't win anything with 3 senior attackers and 2 CB's we can count on, started well this window but it's a joke we're playing friday in this situation.

Looking at the list of players out so far:

Diaz - 28yrs - still possible to get decent fee for him, maybe wouldn't next season, one year older etc.
Nunez -still young enough and can get a decent fee back for a player who just hasn't done it simple as.
Quansah - bit-part player who most were complaining about last season. Could have been given more time to develop arguably but he has brought a decent fee for a young player
Kelleher - wanted first team football and probably could have brought a higher fee IMO
Arnold - well-documented, wanted to leave, didn't sign a contract. Arguably should have been asked to leave or sign a couple of seasons back but then you lose one of your best players in his prime too.

    Morton ...
    Philips
    Jaros
    Davies

    etc. etc.

Diaz and Trent are the only ones I would try and keep from the above but Trent didn't want to stay. Diaz had been linked with a move the past couple of seasons. He hasn't produced end-product but I would agree he's a good player and valuable to the team. However, he'll be worth a lot less in a season or two and possibly would want much higher wages to stay.

In anything in life you have to make decisions and there is no perfect scenario. As fans we want it all but the guys in charge have to actually make the calls. They've probably looked at the above and decided it's worth the risk to cash in on Diaz now rather than get little to nothing for him in a couple of years. With Trent they might have thought if he won't sign let's try and get what we can from him before he leaves as he's a gifted young player. Not perfect or easy decisions but someone had to make them.

I get that diaz wanted to leave too, but not signing a replacement and expecting gakpo to start at LW every game is criminal, yes if we get isak ekiteke can play on the wings, that's still only 4 in 3 though one injury they have to play every single game, apart from League cup/fa cup we probably won't care about much.

Imagine if one of them misses months of the season, and we're counting on a 16 year old ?

Not to mention quansah, yes he wasn't the best but could still do a job and a backup option now we've got fuck all whos actually a CB this is with konate leaving on a free next summer and VVD can't go on forever, we need to replace him simple as that, i'm sure we will bring in a CB but we're taking our sweet time.

Numbers, yes we're down. But should we sign Isak then surely the overall quality is up?

Most people didn't want Nunez and Diogo was struggling to recapture any sort of form. Most wanted both to be sold.

    Salah
    Diaz
    Gakpo
    Nunez
    Jota
    Chiesa

    Salah
    Isak
    Ekitike
    Gakpo
    Chiesa
    Rio/Doak

Obviously, if we don't add another forward and CB then I will be slightly more concerned.

I agree with you Kev that we need more numbers. Its a hard balancing act. Hopefully we get a few more in together with isak.
