There'll never be a better spell as a Liverpool fan in our lifetime. They were golden years, even those years of just missing out were still unreal.
I genuinely miss him as our manager. It sounds cliche but it was just different with him, he's the manager every fan would have loved to have.

I was ecstatic when he rocked up at Anfield, little did I know, I should have been much much happier than that.

He is one of the fer who transcends just being a football manager, he is/was a giant of a man who lifted us to heights way way beyond what could have been expected or anticipated.

    What a man.

I met Shankly (once and it was only briefly) so I don’t say it lightly that without doubt he was our modern day Shankly, he was every bit as important to the club.

Trying to remember how I felt about Klopp's appointment. From memory I highly rated him as a boss. Yet thought as a club we'd somehow still mess up with him eventually. That was what the cynicism of waiting 25 years for a league title did. The football landscape felt vastly different to now. Even pre Guardiola, it felt like City with their money would be battling it out with Chelsea and their own vast backing.
We didn't know how Utd would do if they'd managed to get the right boss in. Arsenal still had Wenger, even if his bosses seemed more preoccupied with takeovers and finishing top 4 than challenging.
Yes we were still a massive club but getting Jurgen was still one hell of a coup
He was just a few months into his planned year off from management. If our owners had waited until summer 2016 to try and employ him, the competition would've been huge to get him as boss.
He was the right fit for our club at that time but a few people should be very proud they got him to sign on the dotted line. That's everyone including those in the boardroom, the day to day staff of the club and of course the city and the support.

What a roller coaster of a ride it was.

7 or 27 makes little difference, the great man’s aura would stay with you for life.

A bit before my time - so I can only dream of what that must have been like. Precious moment that.

It was Steveo mate and it has, can still see him clear as day, telling one of the young lads he gave him an autograph last time, someone else’s turn.

I just stood there in a silent mixture of absolute shock and awe, didn’t even ask for an autograph.. well it would have been a bit difficult as I couldn’t speak

What a time to be a red.

As I remember the polling was 70% for Klopp & 30% for Carlo. Practically 100% satisfied with either candidate, and many doubts about being able to land either.

Iirc N4C, a legendary poster, proposed the allure of big spending and better odds of title success at his choice of clubs across Europe, and couldn't see him picking us. Thankfully the great man joined.

I criticised him towards then end, felt he was underperforming by his standards and defended the squad. Even with those criticisms he nearly won a quadruple, coming up short v cituae & Real.
In the end his retiring early was not a surprise. Managing LFC ain't an easy job at anytime.. Through covid, not being able to visit his homeland when his mum passed away. Grandkids on the way. Onto pastures new with an amazing legacy secured, and fuck all day to day with the press.

I profiled Klopp as a romantic, a man who loved the idea of succeeding against some odds. Thought this was a great break down of what to expect.

The funny thing for me, given the above, was and is that people attribute the low net spending (early days) & relatively lower net compared with others spending (latter days) to the owners.
Klopps net spending at Dortmund a pittance. The idea he wanted big dosh spending like Pep or Jose is wild. He put together his best side on a pittance.
18/19 best season imo for performance. Number 6 can't be ignored.
19/20 best season for number 19.
A near perfect quadruple. Playing every game on the calender.
Nearly went out on a bang in what could have been a PL title. I contest that PL title, var was fucking wild in 23/24. Arguably hard to know who the rightful winners were, we were screwed more than Arsenal iirc, and cituae least of all..

The above, what he produced on the pitch, and Anfield expanded under his watch. Facilities improved. The ARE finally opened to take Anfield to 60k+, and hopefully it is expanded again soon.

In the end, he could have hung around LFC and he'd have been entitled to Wenger out to be a bit harsh on Wenger. But he essentially handed over a quality squad, stacked with new young talents for the next guy. And he went out of his way, a little cringely even, to make sure Slot was welcomed in to the club. Maybe it just feels so cheesy as few manage to walk away in such style. Slot winning the league, a testament to Klopps work, and imo shows the real quality of the squad.

Si.... Deh deh deh....He's....Mo...... Sadio... some belting songs from a very memorable era in the clubs history, All the fuckin best Jurgen. Great times
