Don't know about top earner level, but things we have to consider from a future-proofing perspective are -
- Van Dijk's career essentially having a time limit
- Gomez's propensity for being unavailable
- Leoni's future career a massive question-mark due to incredibly bad luck with injury
So for me it entirely makes sense to try and tie Konaté down (though not necessarily at our very top bracket) and supplement that by trying to acquire someone like Guehi or Schlotterbeck as soon as we humanly can. Both would be ideal, but likely a stretch if we are backing ourselves to get Leoni a good post-injury career and also if we are considering getting Quansah back in future, which is possible.
We sold Quansah for Ł35m and the buy-back is Ł60m and kicks in after 2 years - something like that? Feel free to correct me anyone who remembers the accurate details. Essentially there is an argument that we could, in time, look back and say we spent a net Ł25m to pay for Quansah's development at another club for two years.
Anyway - a centre-back (or two?) and a DM of sorts would be wonderful players to target in due course.

You mean let Konate go on a free and bring in Guehi on a free, meaning we need to buy a CB?
Because he gave LFC his word and I believe he will stick to it.
Hope so miller really do.. He does seem like a man of honour though to be fair..
The phrase "your word is your bond" may have meant something many years ago, but as sad as it is, in today's world words are often meaningless. The phrases "talk is cheap" and "actions speak louder than words" are more pertinent.
Nobody could blame Guehi if he is now having second thoughts about joining us. This kind of thing is why we should have got him signed up asap instead of playing silly buggers and possibly trying to save a few quid.
Will 'we' learn from this farce? I have my doubts.
Plenty of CBs in the premier League way better than Konate. I personally won't lose any sleep of he goes.
Report that liverpool have told konate sign new offer or leave in january.
