When did we last buy a midfielder of who could start/challenge or rotate as 1 of the 3? Im not counting Wirtz as a mid btw.

Why would you not include Wirtz? Does that mean Szobsoslai isn't considered a midfielder?

Not wanting to open that can of worms again but Endo could do that. No, he's not as good Caicado / Wharton et al but he could and can do that job.

He did it perfectly well for Klopp, when Klopp didn't fancy Grav. Now Slot doesn't fancy Endo but likes Grav...

But the point is well made, you can never have too many quality players.

I have to say - Klopp got 82 (just 2 less than last season) points with the squad that won the title last term - playing Endo often, This alone is testimony to his greatness. Add to that that the entire midfield was in its first season…! see Wirtz - Kerkez - Isak…Frimpong . Then add in the unprecedented injury list… 12 seniors missing at the business send of the season, as his team went for a quad… and you understand the monumental impact the man had and still has over this club.

But Endo - great servant that he is, is imo beyond a liability. He is so slow it ain’t even funny

That said - I totally agree with Slot on this one. Endo at CB maybe - but in your midfield…? Really…?

Thiago… That’s the last time we actually went out for a genuine top level senior to challenge an existing trio already in situ and considered top level. Even that tho was after they knew they weren’t giving Gini the contract he was after.

And that’s a sad indictment. And don’t get me wrong - he was a wonderful player - superb technique - BUT he was bought years too late - his best years behind him and crucially - was well known - even in his prime to be injury prone. We got him for relative peanuts - that’s why we did it. Too little too late.

We just don’t do it, Be it Defenders or Mids… IF we can get by with 3 mids and the drop off to rotation is huge… We say - that’s ok…

Well at the top level - it never is… Only - IF you have a Jurgen Klopp on board perhaps - then you can fool some into believing you can

Not really - we didn’t have a trio of top level starters at that time. Grav had a weak first season - Endo was Endo - Macca was good in patches at best and Szobozlai started like a freight train and then flattered to deceive. That was summer 2024…

This summer was the summer where we had 3 you would considers all to be nailed on starters. And yet again we simply didn’t bother.
