    When we went balls out for isak and got knocked back and then signed ekitike ans still in the end went back for isak the alarm bells were ringing for me. They were already ringing a bit after signing wirtz. I said it here at the time in summer. You just knew it was going to blow up because it represented a break in continuity of both play style and transfer philosophy. It was hard to express reservations because we’d all campaigned for years to see klopp spend money at that level. He always said he didn’t really see the value in it. That by default became Liverpool’s stance on signing big names. It turns out that chemistry and knowing the elements needed in a squad trumps signing anyone for 100m. Who knew. The minute I heard about wirtz signing I had a horrible feeling that it wouldn’t work out. To be fair on the other hand I thought isak would and it’s been poor too from him albeit with a shit start fitness wise. I’m rambling her now but imo we have away all of our squad strength to in theory crest a monster first 11 and it caved almost immediately.

    @Eggy. Very good post.
    I always remember saying to my Utd supporting pals many many years ago that once Ferguson retires they'll be just another team. It proved right, they've had some success but nothing on that previous scale and they're in the place we were post 1990. Just expecting the good days to return and before you know it it's ten years plus without a league title. Arsenal also been there but that's gonna end this season after 22 years.
    Same will happen to City. All those clubs mentioned had or have generational managers that like you say don't happen too often.

    Some of the revisionism that goes on on here is phenomenal.

    The pining for Elliot, Diogo, Nunez, Quansah, Diaz, Tsimikas and Trent is laughable. Diaz aside the others were getting constant and consistant pelters from all corners last season and the season before it.

    It might turn out that we've signed absolute duds in Isak, Wirtz, Ekitike, Kirkez, Frimpong and Leoni. Time will tell. But is enyone seriously suggesting having any of the above 24/25 players and i'm including Diaz here in the starting XI would fix things?

    See your point but nunez and ellliot both showed more passion and agression than wirtz & isak.
    Chiesa puts more in than salah,isak,gapko but cant get on the pitch.has young rio gone back to school as he is another not getting a look in.
    Give rio ekitikie chiesa ago,seasons done away.
    Also needs investigating as imo newcastle still have isak locked up somewhere and have sold us a poor copy.

    Hallelujah.

    We have signed quality players. We need to give them time. Trent would make a difference though. The forum was very clearly wrong about his importance to the team.
