It's the numbers Jozza the numbers. The fact that football is fluid and cannot be boiled down to a phone number escapes many a latter day "expert".
"Slot plays/played a 4-2-3-1" oft used by those without a clue describes a shape that exists/existed perhaps only for the 5 seconds before kickoff. Anyone actually at the games knows this - because they witnessed it in 3 dimensions - rather than on a screen.
DNA regardless of the Slot tweak (largely on paper) last season and where we see things changing in a more radical sense this time out..
Last season for us, slowly adopting a 4-3-2-1 was just an attacking variation of the 4-3-3, prioritising attacking width through the full-backs and overloading the half-spaces.
Era-tage...
LFC last 10 years : Driven by pace, verticality, high pressing, and creating goal chaos through the full-backs and half-spaces.
CFC last few years: Driven by control, technical passing, and relying on individual quality and traditional hold-up play in the centre.
Two teams, same "numbers," but completely opposite tactical philosophies
Bottom line is... You're absolutely right off course Jozza... but try to remember 'what' you are talking to.![]()

Brenda wins it for Villa 😂
Get iiiiiiin
Massive win and is this the Arsenal wobble…? Need City to stand up now.
Incredible last ditch goal from villa. Deserved from what i saw
Has Emery got the Indalo over Arteta…?
Would be tough to argue that Arsenal come closer to winning a title had they kept him.
Watch sunderland go one better than they did at Anfield now.
He certainly has spent better than Arteta, and Klopp in recent years by my analysis.
