We were decent enough in the first half. I was thinking it's a matter of time. But second half that was some of the worst football I can remember us playing in years! Awful stuff. Seems to be a pattern this season that we're much worse second half. Then slot made changes which took away some of our most threatening attack. Chiesa would have been the only one i would have brought on.

It's hard to see where it goes from here for slot. If this is the kind of football he wants to see then no thanks. Its worse than Houllier who at least was effective. I just think it goes against everything that liverpool stands for. Imagine Shankly watching that crap. He'd be apoplectic.

I posted something similar in another thread. Slot's changes at HT last season were generally excellent and often changed games in our favour. Hasn't worked as well this season. Though we've had a decent amount of injuries to cope with. See the impact Frimpong had yesterday for example. He hasn't been available most of the season.

Also we could have easily conceded late on which would have repeated the same pattern we've seen since September with little improvement.

And watch what occurs inside the box ...wrestling begins way outside - so what - the contact..knee on Hugo's leg is clearly inside and this is before the lunge which totally takes Hugo away from the ball. This should be a penalty regardless of Hugo not diving which you suggested would have made it a penalty. Defender not close to the ball and stops Hugo from getting to it illegally.

100% pen if he goes down (shouldnt need to). You've seen pens given when they continue to hold in the box even if it starts outside.
Last game(or the one before that) I was disappointed when Hugo grabbed his face and went to ground, when he wasn't hit anywhere near there.
Now he was just way too naive and it cost us.

For those still struggling, look where the contact starts. Is it inside the box or outside the box? That's what determines if it's a pen or not.

On the diving vs staying on their feet, I agree. Players generally get more decisions when they go down. That's just the way it is but it wouldn't have resulted in a pen in this case.

Yep it absolutely is - and should never be the case. A foul is a foul regardless of whether the payers falls to the floor. I get the Naive claim but I think he genuinely felt he was about to score or get Wirtz into a scoring position. Which to be fair he did. This is likely the excuse given for no penalty.. Which is tosh. If he isn’t being wrestled to stop him escaping there is no lunge and Hugo has a free shot, Defender doesn’t touch the ball… Jota RIP would have gone down earlier in the move you feel.

None of it changes the fact that there are multiple fouls on Hugo at least 2 of them in the box. I can live with it not being given IF it’s not given against us. I would be surprised if we don’t concede a pen this season where the player doesn’t go to ground…. One thing should have zero to do with the other
