anyone notice the situation with Rio? he got more minutes earlier in the season. so signed his first senior contract. after that hes had about 15 minutes in months.They gave him minutes and hope. if he hadn't have looked like getting more minutes he may have considered his options, very iffy behaviour and the "rumours" are the club wants him to play a bit more. Second half was better, it was a coordinated press and counter press players picking up and in space
My criticism time and again last season was we were losing the press through having too many looking to be in space and at the sane time crowding ourselves out and blocking our own lines to goal
Second half was the best we’ve pressed and counter pressed in a long time
The trick is to have that same balance v low blocks they want to to over commit they want you to flood the area with bodies and be more direct every time it is on to be, supporting the ball played with a runner or two to win any second ball
You have to condense the play one side then switch to the other in one ball or diagonal looking to release a player in behind then look to put quality delivery in with the players from the area play was condensed all making runs having the run on their markers
That’s how to do it
A direct ball and winning second balls from it or switches as described creates a new point of attack the low block isn’t set for
Going side to side slowly with too many players looking to be in space blocking your own lines is too easy to defend and counter
Picking up to win any second ball and attacking quickly and directly is far better, pick up in positions to win any second ball or join the attack as a runner
These are all the things we used to do under Klopp a lot of it is more refined percentage play but it’s devastatingly effective
