You do remember the Coutinho role don’t you Sid?

The difference tonight with 3 forwards ahead of Wirtz most of the time is there was greater threat and movement and we didn’t constantly look a forward short

How much have I talked about Wirtz as an effective one of the front three fucking Macca up and us always looking a forward short? A fucking lot

Oh hang on what happened tonight when the front three created space for the mids to move into ?

Wirtz best game tonight with a front 3 ahead of him mostly
Yeah - I still think he does his best work in the left half-space. I don't think we're disagreeing here.

    ...................Grav

    Szoboszlai..........Wirtz

    Forward ......Striker.......Forward

If doing a 4-3-3 and I'd happily have him behind two strikers if we did a Diamond.

Ladies and Gentlemen .... The Emperor

Picks the ball up about 30 yards out. Two touches and BANG.

Just watching the keeper through that sequence. He's convinced that Wirtz is going to the keepers left. See him keep edging that way.

Then Wirtz slots it in the other corner and the keeper is helpless. He seems to do that a lot.

I want to see him linking with all the three forwards ahead of him the full backs and other mids

I think we’ve found his place he’s scoring and assisting coming into the space the forwards are creating could have a Coutinho or De Bruyne on our hands here

I like it as he’s performing ibis best in a position other than Slot dreamt up 😂🤣😂

All-being-well he can continue to contribute to our season, we (hopefully) finish in a strong enough position to partake in next season's Champion's League and (hopefully) go deep in this season's competition.

Would be really great if that all panned out and there could be a late May/early June boil of the kettle and revisit some of the earlier posts in this thread (versus some of the later ones) and see how many people gradually board the Wirtz express.

He's a joy to watch. If we can manage our succession planning well on the flanks so that he can provide more ammunition for three confident forwards, rather than (respectfully) a hit-and-miss, somewhat predictable Gakpo and a past-his-prime Salah as Kerkez and Frimpong (injuries permitting) continue their development, there could be a lot of fun yet to come in 26/27, 27/28 and beyond.

Need to get this season sorted though to have the platform upon which to build and nights like tonight have been too few from our side, but a good week it must be said!

Yep.. just imagine him with a prime Salah/Diaz

I don't think we're set up for him yet, but he is the future along with Hugo&Isak, next few seasons we need 2 wide attackers, and a top destroyer type of DM.... i say seasons because I doubt we'll get everything in the summer when we have work at the back to do also.

I think that's the way we'll go going forward anyway, and the long-term vision, but what do I know.

Just think things will take a bit of time, and rome wasn't built in a day and all that...

I do t think we need a destroyer I think its the last thing we need

We need a positionalky astute and very aware No6 who take up great positions to stop counters and us getting g played through that support all our other players press and counter press positions, who can play through the lines and the long diagonals and switches and who has great recovery pace so they can rescue situations when other ppl let the press get broken
