Alonso showed tactical flexibility at Real Madrid - he'd use a 4-2-3-1 as well - wasn't always a back three.
At present I have little care about formation and my focus is very much more focused on more entertainment and impetus.
Under Slot (if he is willing to make tweaks....) that could be quicker, less conservative passing in build-up, giving Kerkez and Frimpong more license to really go for it, or the acquisition of better individuals via the market for one-on-ones, aka replacing Gakpo and/or Salah.
Under Alonso we'd be more entertaining from the off I believe. How good the results would be.....unsure - though I believe Real Madrid are a basket-case of a club and that we shouldn't read too much into his tenure there.
I hope we can see a wide player willing to pass to Kerkez and Frimpong being given more license to overlap and overtake Salah - that alone would be a big lift right now. That first half was so ridiculously conservative and stunk of "job preserving" football where we play it safe and hope a moment of individual quality is enough - and we need to be more than that.
An absolute FRAUD.
