Wide forwards are now the games top forwards ahead of No9’s. They are more versatile and skilled, more adept at creating opportunities for themselves and others rather than relying on others to provide for them and outdo almost all number 9’s in goal contributions
To try and move to play with 2 No9’s supported by Wirtz as a 10 trying to play through the centre with Kerkez and Frimpong supposed to create more than Trent supported by Mo and Hendo and Robbo supported by Mane and Gini with the wide forward either side making outside in runs to arrive unmarked it an absolute “fuck for this” nonsense by Slot Edwards & Hughes

That formation 4.1.2.1.2 was a great formation with Brendan with Sturridge and Suarez up front with Coutinho at a number 10 if my memories are right. In theory we have a decent squad to play that formation, but Isak and Ekitike have to be on top form. My opinion is Slot lost the players and the chemistry of the team when he put Ekitike on the bench on the beginning of the season when he was our top performer player and put Isak on his place. That was when the season turn around and we start to play much worse. Like Kerkez should wait a couple of weeks until be our first choice on LB position, like it happened with Robertson. Slot make a lot os mistakes this season, personally I don't see us keeping him for next season and I hope that happen for sure. But we have to appoint the right manager because if we fail we could start another dark era for our club...
A out that formation 4.1.2.1.2 in theory we have a decent squad but we lack real options upfront without Isak be on top form

With personell we have this is exactly what I would be playing. And with a view that Xabi is mamanger next season then changing the DM for a CB is reletively minor tweak.
The only issue is that it would be a struggle to get young Rio into the team.
