The facts, hes played 149 times and has 15 goals?, If we had gone in with Elliot last season, we have been force to drop one of our midfielders.. all 3 had great seasons last season. or Mo Salah.. who plays on the right.. Elliot is not good enough in my opinion.

"not good enough" is different from "not good", which seems to be the implication in the current arguments.

As demonstrated, among his own peers and players his age-range he was obviously good enough to be the player of the tournament in a continental competition.

Expecting him to be good enough to displace players with decades of experience and skill ahead of him int he pecking order, is in my opinion ridiculous.
Is there any other player in our history coming up through the ranks from the junior squad that had a similar-type breakthrough into the first team with that kind of impact that you can recall....not named "Owen" or "Gerrard"?
Maybe Raheem..... but even he didn't come up through our system and we bought him from Chelsea.

It would be like saying we don't see Trey Nyoni more because he's..."not good enough".

Which is tough big talk for a club that's had the season we've had and with the way our midfield (outside of Szoboslai) has played this season.

If we're bashing him for going to another club and failing to break into their first team or get any playing time - not for any reasons related to his playing ability as noted, but for reasons beyond his control and not related at all - then....perhaps we truly do deserve our upcoming time in the wilderness again from winning anything in a long time.

I expect to see Rio and Trey getting likewise pushed out in the coming seasons for "not being good enough" when they eventually inevitably fail to be able to carry all the (unrealistic) expectations of fans and a club starved of success down the line.
Only to go find success elsewhere.

I hope for his sake he finds another club to go to like Kelleher did.
This club is just becoming too toxic and it's not worth the effort anymore.

If I were a young player I wouldn't want to come here, and I'll not blame Rio (or Trey) one bit when they eventually decide to move on.

You're still deliberately skipping over the fact that Emeri didn't play him not because he wasn't good enough.
He didn't play him because Villa do not want to buy him.
Period.

Now you can argue that Villa do not want to buy him because he's not good enough, but Emeri himself has stated plainly that he never needed him to begin with and the decision to bring him to Villa was not his.
Perhaps if the play-to-buy clause didn't exist in his contract, then maybe Emeri would have played him more and at that point you could legitimately make the argument that him not seeing game-time was because he wasn't good enough, but at things stand, that wasn't the primary driver for why he wasn't seeing minutes at Villa.

It had nothing to do with his playing ability.

You’re confusing the mechanism of why he’s been benched all season with the actual reason they don’t want him.

Yes… the 10-game obligation clause is why he was frozen out. Nobody is denying the contract exists… but you’re completely ignoring *why* Villa dodged it.

If Elliott had gone there and played like a world-beater - Villa are doing backflips to pay that fee because a top-tier young English midfielder is worth way more than that in today’s market.

The reality is Emery looked at him in training and his initial games - decided he didn’t fit his system - and the club realised paying that much for a squad player would ruin their PSR budget.

Emery admitting he never needed him to begin with proves the point. If a manager thinks a player is elite… they play them and buy them. The clause is just the handbrake - but Emery’s evaluation of Elliott is the reason they pulled it.

The point isn’t to say Elliot isnt good enough. I am one of the few backers of Harvey - but I can recognise that he isn’t the top level.

Klopp wouldn’t freeze a player like that out - this is where he was different - and he found great opportunities for the lad to develop - and feature in winning trophies.How much of that was out of necessity is anyone’s guess.

#Elliot# transfer sum up how messy is our transfer. Yes, you can sell him just go ahead get some fund back, loan out with 10-game clause better keep him to ourselves as we already know we have not enough right wingers at the start of the season.

Tsimikas replaces robbo.

Frimpong? slot has used jones at RB at times ahead of frimpong which leads towards slot not liking him as a RB,for me i would prefer elliott as attacker cover than frimpong,add frimpong to list and buy new RB.
