Why would I be protecting the owners? I've got nothing to gain from them other than the effect they have on the club. What a strange stance.

"They woke up to the cold hard reality". Again, when did they wake up to Slot's inability to manage the team? After he'd won a title?

I'm not sure i'd let a manager I wasn't convinced about play with £500m worth of new toys.

Think you're giving them far too much credit!

Why would you protect them? I dunno ... possibly because you’ve spent years buying into their corporate spin hook...line...and sinker...and by admitting you were wrong now would mean admitting the "frugal model" was a myth. You don't need to be on the payroll to act as a shield... your posts do the job for them anyway even if it isn't intended.

And you are still trapped in this loop about Slot - completely missing the point for the third time. They didn’t wake up to Slot’s inability before spending the money...they spent the money in a blind panic because the Klopp safety net was gone... and they realised a normal manager - lord knows ANY manager couldn't keep performing net-spend miracles with a depleted squad. They didn't hand Slot "500m of new toys" because they trusted him blindly... they did it because they realised the squad's asset value was about to plummet off a cliff without serious backing. It was a chaotic... reactive over-correction...an admission to all the things I levelled at them for years... and the fact that Slot has turned out to be completely useless and completely blew the tactical balance just proves how badly the board botched the whole transition.

Talk about giving them too much credit... you’re the one pretending this £450 million scattergun spree was some deeply calculated...mastermind plan from the boardroom. It was pure...unadulterated post-Klopp panic - and the 20 defeats and 5th-place finish are the exact receipt.

    Making stuff up now Steveo.

Never said that spending what we was anything like a masterminded plan. But hey ho...

Why would they realise that a 'normal' manager couldn't keep doing what we had been doing? We'd just won a title! It's a mental stretch!

Correct - you didn’t say that explicitly- but I took that as your meaning, not always easy to tell. But it would be good if you could tackle the rest. And we had just won a title - but with the departed managers squad - entirely his squad . So much his squad that we didn't sign ANYONE but a player Slot CLEARLY didn't want..

And yes... "they woke up to the cold hard reality" is exactly what happened. It’s only a "mental stretch" to you because you keep looking at a trophy lift instead of looking at the structural state of the squad. The owners are many things but they aren’t stupid... they knew that winning that title was the absolute final drop of miracle juice squeezed out of the foundations Jurgen left behind. They realised that without Klopp’s genius... a "normal" manager - like Slot...like Arteta and many others would instantly expose just how thin and underfunded the squad really was.

The panic didn't happen because they suddenly doubted Slot before the summer... the panic happened because they looked at the squad profile... looked at life without Jurgen... and realised their multi-billion-pound asset was about to plummet off a cliff if they didn't finally open the check book like never before.

You can try to dance around your own words all you like... but I believe you're still completely missing the wider truth.

If I am wrong jozza - please tell us why... Call me crazy but IF they believed Slot was so great why the need for this huge unprecedented injection of cash? If they thought he was shyte - again - why the huge injection of dosh? From my perspective it's a complete change of structure to achieve a few things 2 of them being to try and match the work of Klopp using 3 people - an admission on its own - AND a buffer between the fans and them. We now have 3 people we can look at before we mention Henry and co..

I can't for the life of me, comprehend just how incompetent the club management of this team has been over the last 18 months.

Despite winning a title in that period, I'll include the 6 months before that because there were certain preparations they should have been making leading up to last summer's transfer window that they failed to make and which we're clearly paying for now.

So let me get this straight,...

These clowns have been faffing around with their thumbs up their arses knowing the Konate's contract situation needed to be resolved - one way of another - before THIS season ended.
Meaning, if he rejected their offer or they somehow couldn't work it out, they would have a plan B ready to go in the January transfer window preferably and have a new player IN for the last half of this season (not back at his club on loan like they usually like to do and as they did with Jacque. That doesn't help us. And it certainly rarely helps the player in question, if anything is worse for them - see : Origi and Naby Keita).
They need to adopt a policy where you buy a player - if the player is good enough and ready enough to join us immediately then he comes here and gets bedded in. Especially with players playing in foreign leagues who need the time to acclimate to the Premier league and it's pace, and knowing that most foreign-based players usually struggle over the course of the first several months getting a footing. See the new players who came in this past seas.

It worked out great with Diaz, whom we brought in during the January window, while the player he was replacing (Mane) was still here - allowing him to be eased into the squad in a manner and pace that benefitted both.

But aside from all this, you would have thought that those two Clowns - Hedwards and 'Ughes - might have learned a lesson or two from the same dramatic nonsense that came about when Trent too was in this very same situation, and they wasted a whole two years trying to convince him to stay even when they knew that whole time he was always going to leave. And now we see it play all over again and a player leave on a free.

I swear, the day they fire Slot early next season after we have a disastrous start to the campaign, those two need to be on the bus right along with him, because their fuck-ups in the board room, have been just as detrimental to us as Slot's incompetence on the sidelines.

And Henry, get your thumb out ya arse and get to dishing out some pink slips.
Our club is rotting right before our very eyes.

Sounds an awful lot like projection Steveo.

Regarding the injection of cash, it coincides with the record Premier League and Champions league TV deals, maybe the club thought it was best to strike when the iron was hot? Just as plausable as them shitting the bed and spending £500m.
