At the start of the season the squad was good enough to retain it's PL title.
Arsenal now hold that title, and needless to say the poor performances and results are largely down to Slot & the players.
Thats how I see it.
We won number 20 last year, the title parade day marred by a loon in a car driving into people.
Thereafter the Jota brothers died tragically, this would impact our lads and it disrupted preseason, theres also been a few injuries, now if that was all Slot was dealing with then he'd still be employed.
However, there's enough public evidence to point to a massive rift between some players & Slot, and the players look more interested in getting Slot sacked than winning titles. What's behind that exactly, who knows.
With Jose at cfc 2nd time round iirc it was a woman linesman/ref he shouted out, and iirc the official had made the correct call, rumoured wives of players very upset by it all.
With Rio & Moyes at manu, it was chips 🍟
The performance & antics around PSV 4-1 loss, what a night. VVD looked like he was trying to get sent off. Gave away a penalty in the opening minutes, clattered a fella and ended the half popping off at the ref.
2nd half Salah with the tamest of tackle attempts as they scored their 2nd the winner. Jones did the talking post match.
Salah later dropped and then spoke in media aka sack Slot.
At this point the club opted for inaction, settle it down give Salah his send off and keep Slot for the season. Salah gets a grand brand send off, and Slot leaves with a 2 year succesful stint.
Took over from Klopp. Won number 20. And in a shit, waste of a season made CL football. It'll be interesting to see how he fares elsewhere. His ability as a manager, seems fairly proven albeit there's been some massive bust up this season.
Salah had a few pops, and leaves LFC outscored by Casemiro in the PL in his final season. At the end Slot in reply said, footballs played on the pitch. And Salahs not alone just most prominent and did use his legendary status when speaking out before ACON and has a massive influence on the squad.
In football terms, you sell Salah in January and back Slot, or you sack Slot and bring in a new manager.
The club seemingly opted to pr manage over football manage. Salah leaves on a free transfer with 1 year remaining.
The lads refused to stumble into a PL title race ahead of our January clash with Arsenal.
They almost refused to enter the CL next season at the end of the season. Whilst liking posts.
For me this season, is down to Slot & players, a massive fall out.
And not the ability of our players and Slot.
If they were all pulling together we'd have fared better.
Wirtz takes the pelters with 5 PL goals, to Salahs 7 and Casemiros 9. Gakpo got 7 too.
Now everyone is elevated in rubbishing last summers transfer window. I'm going to stick by my analysis and say it was a good window on paper. And I most against Isak in & Nunez out !
So, new manager, new start, I'm happy enough with what's in situ for the bookies favourite Iraola.
I'd say stick with Edwards & Hughes, as on paper last seasons summer window was good. And get the rebuild done. Hughes and Iraola working at Bournemouth together previously.
On paper.
GK Alisson Giorgi Woodman
Deal with this next summer. Ali probably off to Juve on a free next summer.
RB Bradley Frimpong Squad
LB Kerkez Tsimi
Not a high priority for me, I'd rely on Squad to cover RB keeping Jones. Can understand new rightback wants from many.
CB
VVD, Jacquet, Leoni*, Gomez*.
Needs additions.
Midfield:
Grav New 6
Sobozla/Jones
Wirtz/Elliott.
MacA for Camavinga would work for me, maybe Jones leaves, and who knows if Elliott stays or moves on.
Endo could leave as only squad/cover these days, or leave next summer when his contract expires.
Some work.
Attack.
Rwf Chiesa.
CF Isak/Ekitike
LWF Gakpo/Rio
Lots to do in attack. Ekitike out for a good while too.
Let the work begin.
