    .
Although a member of FIFA since 1912 (as the Soviet Union before 1990), Russia first entered the FIFA World Cup in 1958. They qualified for the tournament 11 times in total, with their best result being their fourth-place finish in 1966. Russia has been a member of UEFA since 1954. They won the first edition of the European Championship in 1960 and were runners-up in 1964, 1972 and 1988. Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Russia's best result was in 2008, when the team won bronze medals.[4]

Oh right so they've won one trophy, the same as England.

    Indeed!
But England - the home of football!
The record for England in international tournaments is not far away from Russia

Uruguay take more credit for inventing the international game. A nation of 4 million!

Yes we have an appalling record in tournament football, it still would've been that had we won the euros. Not just down to population though, many other reasons too.

The Russian leagues are poor... teams with smaller populations do better because a lot of the time. They all play the same way ie the teams in the league. Its a gradual learning of players who play a certain way and have understanding of players from different teams.. The Dutch were/are masters of it. from an early level all the coaching is pretty much the same .

In England its always about getting forward and winning the emphasis is not always about ball control and passing in squares and keeping possession. At international level. The England players simply get run around the field. It happened against Italy and it did with Croatia. You dont always need huge populations of people and players to produce good football

The Russia analogy is a slightly poor one Justme
They were a far better proposition when they were the USSR with far more players and differing cultures to chose from
