Finally … Jones nicks the ball in his own half and charges up the pitch supported by Salah, he plays a ball to Salah on the right edge, he returns it to Jones who’s miss control falls to Wirtz arriving in the box and he slots his first Liverpool goal with a neat finish

Dazzling from Rio, inside the box on the left, he slowly takes the defenders out towards the edge of the box then suddenly turns and darts past them both, cross cleared but that was some skill.

Again, Rio skips past his man on the left flank and plays a one two finding himself in the box, looks like he’s going to pass but beats another man instead, shot saved.
The youngster has been very lively since coming on

I do wonder if we wont replace Diaz and give Rio a bit of a go. I've Sterlingesque thinking cap on in terms of getting him into the line up.

Proper workout, second half better as the opposition tired a little (though they are in mid season) and Liverpool’s second half team really took the game to them.

Best reds were Salah (motm) Frimpong and young Rio.

Good game. Lots of positives.
I think it raises an interesting question about the midfield. Lots of pundits have been making their predictions about our first team starting eleven and who would drop out to facilitate Wirtz. All of them had Dom Sobozslai dropping to the bench, but he has been petty great, even though it's 'only' preseason. But you couldn't be dropping Macca either. An embarrassment of riches , all over the team actually.
Just need a centre back and maybe a wide player, so Rio can be eased in at a pace to suit his age and development.
