The problem we had with Newcastle in the league cup final they won the midfield battle and we went in with our 3 best midfielders.. sometimes you have to accept teams will over power you.. they are allowed to do it.. It always happened prior to Jurgen coming. Then we kind of changed when we got Firmino..we were more stable after that.. Fabinho Henderson Wijnaldum.. Its always the conundrum for all teams press and leave space for counter attacks. Or drop off and create nothing of note. we didn't have much goals in that midfield but we didn't concede much either . Saying that we did pretty well last season number wise when it came to letting in goals.

Palace and Bournemouth just overpowered our midfield, that shouldn’t happen.

Bournemouth and Palace are decent teams and will cause a lot of problems for teams this season. Glad we won the important game last night. and all agree we need to improve on a lot of things..

Yes, exactly this... and it's worth remembering that the 4 new players starting last night were on the pitch with 7 other players who are still in mourning and full of grief for their friend and his brother...
It all takes affect on the lads, they're only human...

I have no doubt that Wirtz has the quality needed to succeed, It's just a case of how long it takes him to adjust to the demands of the PL, and how and where he is going to be used.

For me he should be played in the number ten position or as a false nine with a double pivot of two solid, more defensively sound midfielders which in my opinion should be Gravenberch plus a new good quality defensive midfielder. Mac Allister's game is significantly skewed towards his attacking prowess which can at times be an issue, even more so when Gravenberch is missing, something that was far too evident during yesterday's game.

He's reminded me of Thiago with his composure in the ball. Think he'll be absolutely fine, there's been shoots of linking up with mo, and his quality in passing has been evident in tight spaces.

Yep never a 6.. hes a terrific number 8... Wirtz is a false 9 or a 10 which ever suits. Like i said time will tell if he can play in a 3 and have a main forward in front of him

Hmmm …

For me it’s not just that he’s adjusting to a new Team in a new League, it’s the fact Slot’s paid a fortune for a ten??

Neither Slot or Klopp has won anything at Liverpool playing a ten, so why rip it up and change what has worked, with 3 midfielders? We have been appalling defensively since changing formation, leaking goals like a sieve.

Really think we should be going back to three in midfield against Arsenal or they WILL beat us on Sunday.

I wouldn't start Gakpo on Sunday.. Id play with 4 midfielders with Wirtz being the front player.. Ekitike on the left and Salah right.. the 4 in midfield would be Grav Macca Szoboszlai and Wirtz .. pleny of legs in there.
