    Liverpool XI v Newcastle

    Alisson
    Jones Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez
    Szoboszlai Gravenberch
    Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo
    …….. Ekitike.

Subs: Mamardashvili, Gomez, Endo, Chiesa, Leoni, Elliott, Robertson, Bradley, Ngumoha.

Only game 2 and yet again multiple players missing.
Particularly at RB where we have 3 options yet none of them apparently ready to start.
We have a midfielder at RB whether it’s Jones or Szoboszlai, that’s the midfield weakened by one and with MacAllister out that’s two midfield options missing.

Think this will be a tough night, going for a high scoring draw.

That bench makes grim viewing. Such a positive start to the transfer window and now look severely weakened

Hopefully it's Sobozla at RB and Jones starting for Maca on the left in our pivot.

Anyone else thinking a draw would be a good result?

Gravenberch & now McAllister. Their timing is shite, obviously can’t have kids between May/June/July. Looks like they were bored at home last November. Not ideal to have a key player missing in a big game. I don’t agree with Slot saying he’s happy with his bench tonight.

We're a touch imbalanced at the moment.

A forward and a centre-back would rectify a lot. Thankfully still time.

I looked at our first three games and said I'd be happy with 7 points. Don't mind if we get a draw here and a win against Arsenal (preferable) or a win here and a draw against Arsenal (less preferable) but I'd take 7-from-9 either way.

Hopefully we can sneak a win - would be quite satisfying if we played a bit shite but won anyway.

The way we’ve been conceding, particularly on the break, a midfielder at right back is a nightmare for us.

We will need to score more than one to even get a point tonight.

I would be happy with a draw. Newcastle are going to kicks lumps out of us. Their crowd are going to be calling for penalties / red cards etc. If we defend like we have been, they’re front three are going to get in behind all night and rip us a new one.

We needed and still need a top quality DM. Gravenberch's first game of the season just after his wife gives birth, no Mac Allister, Szoboszlai at RB, and Jones in midfield is asking for trouble.

I'd take a good DM attacker, and CB over isak at 150m

Slot seems to feel (judging by his comments) that better positioning/shape when boxing a side in will leave us best-positioned to regain the ball quickly and prevent a counter.

I must say I didn't love hearing that, but he had great success with attacking footie in Holland and has a ridiculous amount of credit in the bank after last season, so we will see how it plays out. I'd worry about it against certain sides in the Champion's League and would love a "modern Mascherano" if they were out there.
