Surely Arne is aware of the physical aspect of the league by now. Yes Newcastle played like Everton but if you were waiting for them to stand off us and try to play pretty football… come on, they don’t have the players for a start.

A touch concerning, he needs to either get this lot to toughen up or get some physicality in the squad, such a pity Caicedo didn’t come, we could do with a bit of what he brings.
    Absobloodyexactly - he does....

Also some were laughing at Chelsea signing Caicedo - saying how we dodged a bullet. They weren't watching. We didn't...we pocketed a packet and left ourselves much more vulnerable.

Yeah. We definitely need to toughen up. We look quite lightweight. A bit worrying. Graveberch is silky but quite lightweight physically. Macca and Szobo are quite tenacious. Wirtz looks like he doesn't know what's hit him. To be fair Newcastle were so up for that last night. Incredible atmosphere. Must have been some game to play in. Tough one for the players. Baptism of fire for the new players.

      • Yep… we left our gazelle in there…. who was outstanding last season - but only due to playing out of position to cover for the fact we failed to land our target for the second successive summer. Rinsed him all last season - playing him literally every possible minute we could - got away with it - just…. and we still think we don’t need a DM..? Crazy. Any one of Grav or Macca missing and we have a problem against almost anyone. Other managers will have noticed Grav isn’t the sturdiest and will deploy that tactic all season. We went and bought a 10..: A 10 I was very try impressed with tbf but one who looks like a luxury player at the moment.

        • Yeah. Not sure how these things play out behind closed doors but maybe the club was planning to sell Diaz who wanted away for a while and who is at his peak value probably, also Nunez who hasn't produced. Also, other players who aren't going to be in Slot's thoughts like Quansah, Doak....Try to get a return and reinvest.

They realised they could do business on Wirtz and Ekitike and tried to get that done. Maybe found it harder to get deals done on other positions.

I'd imagine they have a list (giant spreadsheet) of areas that need stengthening and first, second, third etc preferences across Europe and further afield. I would find it hard to believe they haven't thought about getting in backup for Grav at some stage unless they consider Endo as backup.

          • We conceded 2 goals from set pieces. Wonder what arsenal will try against us?

Roll on the ground a bit more? probably 10 stupid konate tackles

and 5 goals for them from corners? maybe 3 corners 2 free kicks

Sounds about right. 3 from corners and 2 from free kicks.

                • Just seen that stat, that the ball was only actually in play for 40% of last nights game. Throw ins, free kicks, corners, dives, crowding the ref, loads of subs, rolling around with injuries, and by the way, Tonali injured himself by throwing himself so hard at the ground in order to get a free kick against Ekitike who gave him a little nudge.
I am so happy that we got that late winner.
Newcastle are one of the two most shithousery teams in the prem, and we play the other one next Sunday.

                  • Yep crazy stat that BUT we had an extra man for most of the game - you expect the team with that advantage to be able to dictate the pattern of play.

Doesn’t matter what Slot says - that didn’t happen
