Yea good post this , I think that’s really it , all good players as a whole but we don’t know where anyone is actually playing , frimpong looks like he was bought to be a bit of cover for everywhere rather than a starting right back , Isak now with ekitike has thrown a bit of a spanner in the mix. Wirtz will come good but at the min it’s where to play him, when they system gets sorted I think they will start clicking , I agree with David silva , would have to disagree with zola , strong little f@ker in the mark hughes mould , and I think coutinho was a bit more robustOriginally posted by faridtoxteth View PostI think Szoboslai can offer the forward passing range we had from trent at right back, and defensively way more solid too, but then we miss his engine in other parts of the pitch.
I think the players we have brought in, while I like them all, there seems to be a mystery about where we are supposed to play them. Frimpong..? not really an orthodox full back in any way. Ekitike and Isak? How are we supposed to fit them in together? And then the enigma that is Wirtz. Plenty of non-robust great technical footballers have done really well in the premier league..David Silva, Philip Coutinho, even going back to Zola.
I think our players are mostly very good. I think the problem is the system. That's on Arne. He is tactically extremely astute and I think he will figure it out. Let's give him time.
It will be interesting to see how we play without Mo during Afcon.

Good points from both jimmyliver and farid.
We seem to be chopping and changing a bit which isn't helping.
Integrating so many new players is always going to be difficult. I don't think it's been helped by Isak being unfit, Frimpong getting an early injury, Bradley has only just come back, playing Szobo at RB and Macca seems to have to have a real fitness issue at the mo.Something, Something, Something, Dark Side

I think after all this. (all of us hate losing) you have to accept Palace are in good form right now and not lost in 18... so are on a roll and will take a lot to beat them consistently this season. We just need to learn for when we play them again. No formation is perfect.. you score first against them, and they are sure to spread the game.. I know they got a lot of chances against us. But thats cause we were short in midfield and at the back. they basically only used 3 players at times to attack us.
They have a lot of quality is Sarr and Mateta.. we are not the only team to struggle with them..Cleaning up the Scots since the 13th century

Palace are in good form and we are introducing many new players - they have lost some key men though too. We certainly should not be disheartened by the loss, but the manner of the loss IS a worry.
Nobody can say 4:0 would have flattered them at HT… Slot is under pressure. I said this before our first defeat BTW. it’s palpable I would say. Very tricky period coming up. Negotiate that well and things should be good.
It’s never ever easy with so many new signings

Palace are a really good team. As I mentioned on another thread and before the end of last season, we could have done worse than thrown £150m at them for Eze, Wharton and Guehi.
Personally, I think both fullbacks, Lecroix, Mateta, Sarr and Henderson would all be / have been useful additions.Something, Something, Something, Dark Side

Chelsea, United, Brentford, Villa and City up next!
If we can get to Christmas still top we should be in really good position. It's been a really tough opening set of games. The group of 10 'should' be a little easier...Something, Something, Something, Dark Side

Agree. Palace will take points off all of our rivals I think so it's not as bad as we think.Originally posted by justme View PostI think after all this. Like Steveo says though it's the manner of the defeat, one that has been coming since the opening game.
Personally hoping it's a kick up the arse/wake up call. We've shown we can be excellent going two goals up against some sides and seemingly cruising to then sitting back and getting dominated for long spells and struggling to get out of our own half. We are lacking the control we had for lots of last season, even though we don't exactly play champagne football we looked solid at the back for a long time last season especially the first half of it. That's not the case right now.The defining moments in our lives are never planned.

A very good point (meaning) AND imo born of the form that went before. The form some were gleefully pointing to as 'the form of champions.'
Taking 3 points at the death with a last gasp winner etc time after time. because that's been the reality since the opening day defeat from a winning position in the Community Shield...against the same opposition.
Almost every game - taken to the wire.. Takes its toll mentally, physically AND leaves us finishing games in the mindset of looking for a winner, gambling.. WINGING IT - rather than being realistic ... saying to ourselves.. 'we R lucky as fook to be looking at a point away at Palace.... from a game we should have been dead and buried in 45 minutes earlier.. and focus on heading back up the M1 with that point.Last edited by Steveo; 30 September 2025, 12:36 PM.

Great post that's exactly what I was saying a week ago to the "But we've still won 5 all is good and dandy" crowd 2-0 win 3-0 etc take a lot less toll mentally and physically.... we didn't use to concede every week.Originally posted by Steveo View PostA very good point (meaning) AND imo born of the form that went before. Yes and every game has been a struggle... you think we can carry on like this ? and keep winning?Originally posted by Kev0909 View PostGreat post that's exactly what I was saying a week ago to the "But we've still won 5 all is good and dandy" crowd 2-0 win 3-0 etc take a lot less toll mentally and physically.... we didn't use to concede every week.
Good results against newcastle and arsenal at home
But we was against 10 men and nearly blew it.... and only beat arsenal due to a worldie from Szob....
Struggled against the poorer teams......
Let's see what happens at palace shall we. Away in turkey won't be fun either..... and next months fixtures aren't the easiest.. but i'm sure you think we're playing great justme and we'll keep scraping games and be lucky. how much effort goes into said games instead of holding a 2-0 lead against poorer clubs and winning? Exhausted by christmas if we carry on, that's if we don't have 5 players out injured
we need to improve simple as that, I'm not sure why we go so sloppy and shit when we score first.
post from another thread I made, at least we agree on something xoxoxo, I mean we didn't score first this time but obviously was going to struggle after palace goal.
