Virgil or Konate should have been marking their big centre half not Ekitike. You have to win that first header.

Same issue as having someone like Macca marking big Dan Burn.
Nor me mate , I don’t understand it , a long throw ? So fucking what just get your defenders placed where the ball will go and clear it like a corner , the thing about a long throw it’s not like a corner where it can be mixed duo , it will land in pretty much the same spot every time due to the limitations of a throw .
Just listened to slots press conference, “ how teams play against us in a low block “ what on earth is he on about , this is nothing new, teams have been setting up against us like this for years , he must have an idea how to break it down .
Unfortunately we lost Diaz , gakpo is in - weakened
Playing jones in the midfield- weakened
Szoboslai playing right back - weakened
    Konate salah absolutely nowhere near
New signings not working , system all over the place - it’s not looking positive at the moment

    • It might have been lost in the horrendous performance but I don't agree that was a penalty against van dijk. If you look at the replay it was outside the area. Carrick on match of the day didn't give a clear view on it.

I think the ref gave a free kick and then was wrongly overruled. He wouldn't have given a straight penalty for that.

        • We'd have lost anyway.

We are manutd shite and had a manutd transfer window.

          • Could have had a penalty at one end, benefit of the doubt to Brentford.
Shouldn’t have had one against us at the other end but again, benefit of the doubt given to Brentford.

It happens so often I just expect it now.

Far far more annoyed at the state of our team than incompetent and corrupt officials.

This was little Brentford, with a new manager in his first managerial role, with a squad who lost their two main forwards in the summer.

Absolutely disgraceful from the entire coaching staff and squad

            • Robbo’s honest assessment

““They’re always going to be ready to put bodies in the box when it comes to set-pieces, put the balls in behind, pick up second balls. You know what you’re going to come to, here. They’re always the same and they’re so good at it.

“It felt to me like we were just a yard off it in terms of that. They picked up so many second balls, and then the balls in behind.
“Our backline are running back to try and head the ball, which is so difficult as it is. We know how difficult… how good a set-piece team they are.

“We’ve worked on the long-throw and everything, and five minutes in you concede three long throw-ins. One of them you concede from.

“It’s not good enough, you play into their hands and have got an uphill battle from there. Kept fighting but nowhere near good enough.
“You have to fight for the control. No team in the Premier League, nobody’s going to go, ‘On you go, you take the ball, we’ll try and defend.’ Nobody does that.

“They always have a gameplan, against us and every team. All the managers in the Premier League are so talented, especially the teams that have got a full week to prepare. They would have had a clear gameplan and I think they played theirs perfectly.

“We didn’t play ours at all. That makes it so difficult. If you just think you’re going to show up and all of a sudden they’re going to drop off, we’re going to have control and we’ll just wait until we score. It never, ever happens.”
“This is my ninth season, I think maybe it’s only happened once or twice. If we expect that, then we’re in big bother.

“You have to fight for that control, you have to fight first of all. You have to fight for the second balls, fight for the first balls, and try and feel your way into the game. And then the quality will come through.

“I felt as if we never got a grip on the game at all today. Had moments but not enough moments to go and really put them under pressure.”

This is one of the reasons I qustioned Tees's pass completion stat the other day.

We simply couldn't get out of their press.

We did it far more effectively last season, and to my mind that's tactical. The players have the ability, we've seen them do it and it wasn't down to outrunning or pressing teams to death, we kept the ball far, far better.

Playing with 2 in midfield rather than a 3, and one of them dropping deeper is knackering us at both ends of the pitch.

I still think we can play with a 2 and Wirtz as a 10 but the 2 have to be more disciplined and one of them has to drop deeper to help the centre halves out.

                  • And what's also noticeable is that teams are pressing us far more this season rather than them sitting everyone behind the ball.

Brentford looked more like a Klopp team than a Mourinho side.

                    • Arne Slot's comments after Liverpool's previous defeat - to Manchester United - also triggered criticism from former West Ham midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast.

After the Reds' 2-1 loss to United at Anfield, Slot said "it is always difficult to play against a team that defends in a low block and mainly plays the long ball".

Reo-Coker believes that message will not have been missed by rival managers...

As I was saying in the slot thread

Bit of a joke to say the least, said stuff before it too.
