Yep..it's like watching a Peter Kay show. Predictable.
There's zero guile or creativity. I'm not having it that that squad isn't full of quality. It is and theres a manager or two/three/four would love to work with it.
Whatever Slot is doing it's not working and he's slowly for himself and painfully for us working himself out of a job. An incredibly worrying show that tonight when we maybe expected some momentum after Sunday.

Nope, and that's whatbwe resotlrted to, flinging it into a packed box. As you say, Jones and wirtz have a few quick give and go's and it resulted in the goal. But we never get behind to get an early ball in for isak. Never give a long ball in behind for him to run into.

Did we sign him with the intent of using him how he was used before, or trying to make him fit us? When you pay over 100million for a player (he wasn't worth that by the way) , you need to play to his strengths. Ekitike probably suits more right now than isak.

      • Even I mastered that ball and got it to cone down where I wanted on a right angle and I was better at it with my weaker foot, my putting wedge, you can’t defend it hit right

        It goes like this

        o

        o———————o

Up and down at a steep angle you can take players right out with it

        • Agree Jr81 we don’t practice and set up to counter in opponents direct from their set piece anymore we don’t use variation and mix it up we don’t use witches long diagonals or go back to fro t sometimes from Alisson too anymore

          That shit works

          • Slot has reduced the risk personnel wise in the last two games. There's no plan to get the best out of the players who are playing with fear now

Sick and tired of gakpo doing the same thing, what does chiesa have to do???? no doubt chiesa stays on the bench and salah starts next game...... LOL

Chiesa has probably just gave slot a lifeline, yet he still won't get more than 5 mins
The no pace is a huge problem. It's been one of our main assets the last 7/8 years and it's totally gone now.
I've seen HGVs reverse quicker than Gakpo going forward, add that to his telegram of a turn into the right and it just renders him fucking useless most of the time.
Who the fuck would have thought we'd be talking like this after last season. A drop off was maybe expected but Jesus wept this as bad as the football under any of the managers in our bleak years. It's fucking awful to watch.

I genuinely wonder what they are drilled in training or what his tactics before the game are. It honestly looks like absolutely nothing. No identity at all.

Yep, we haven't seen a diagonal from virgil in how long? I know trent was the main man for that, but Szobo could do it, robbo used to.

We used to hit the opposition fast.

From my reading slot likes to be more controlled, less risky, play the percentage pass which is to keep position. The problem is we are so slow in the build up, the opposition all get back.

We had a chance to break at 1-1, I think mó and jones won it back and instead of going hell for leather we slowed it down until Szobo just hit a hit and hope cross to no one.

Before that would have been fast pass out wide, fast cross to centre, tap in for isak.

The players do look scared to try something new. Agree with you fiordearg, they are playing with fear. Fear of making a mistake by trying something. Fear of going long.

Jones played 1 long pass after coming on and he took out 3 of their players and we got into the box.

                  • Same last game our best chance by a mile before either goal came from Virgil playing on of his long up and down balls dropped just over the last defender on the edge of his own box we did that shit all the time in 19-20 it’s that driven putting wedge up and down ball

A fair few goals that season we dropped it over the head of their defenders on the edge of their own box and scored Trent Virgil
                    Hendo all at it

Robbo too in the odd occasion.

Richard Hughes wants fucking sacked and that specks glory hunting credit claiming twat Edwards fucking sell Diaz out only player with genuine pace flair creativity and trickery and the only other player we have with all of that in abundance but not as quick, Chiesa never gets a start

                      • New here so be gentle... How is Chiesa not picked? If you have a forward running back as your last defender then this guy has shown more passion in his brief appearances than a lot of these players. What really worries me is the drop off in players like Mac,Virgil & Mo in such a short time. The only reason to hope Slot gets it right is the fact there's no obvious better options out there.

Has to start somewhere - getting the balance right will be the next bit.

We've gone from losing 3 matches on the spin by 3-goal deficits to scoring 3 and conceding 1 in 4 halves of football. The 4 points isn't enough and that performance isn't enough, but it's a start.

We've gone from insisting on Salah starting every match despite his horrific form to giving him one half of the four available.

We've gone from "oh no, he's going to stick Szoboszlai at right-back and Grav in at centre-back again isn't he" to bringing Jones on and putting him in at right-back, with the press from Jones leading to the goal.

As tiny as these "little wins" are and whilst we remain very much UNDENIABLY NOT GOOD ENOUGH I will take increments of improvement on the condition that they continue to come.

Things like Ekitike getting starts over Isak, Szoboszlai getting a break somewhere, Jones maybe getting a start over Mac Allister at present - these are the sorts of things that very much need to be coming thick and fast.

Any improvement after losing 6-in-7 is going to be incremental. We aren't going to Boss it overnight and it could well be that Slot is indeed out of his depth, but so long as there are some green shoots of recovery I'd still be a little reluctant to swing the axe JUST yet as we have seen the damage caused to so many clubs that chop-and-change too regularly and end up with incredibly mish-mashed squads.

My word do need a slice of luck soon to get a little something started. Can't wait until we can next score the opening goal in the first 10 minutes or something and knock it about a bit - the players are desperate for confidence.

Welcome mate, it’s a question we’ve been asking all season. His treatment of Chiesa is nothing short of bizarre

Welcome, and hes not being picked cause Slot has an agenda against him. Hes been at our club for a year and half and has not started ONE league fixture..Says it all really

                              • It's not even pace over the top, or actually 'physical' speed. A few one-twos or a rapid sequence of passes would speed the entire game up.

I mean we fucking invented 'pass and move'!

Everybody wants 4 or 5 touches. It's very rarely one and two touch stuff.

                                Macca's the worst for it.
