  • Coach vs Manager

We have always had managers then after Klopp we went with a coach. Is that our problem?Do Edwards & Hughes have the say over transfers & Slot is the yes man that Klopp refused to be? I'm not saying that's our issue but the structure of the club seems to have changed & it seems very similar to the season we ended up with no cbs

It’s not the problem. It’s proper practice to have a structure and style that we adhere to playing across multiple managers to keep continuity when shit hits the fan. Problem is we’ve went from the best manager/ coach in football to a normal coach and we are suffering now because he’s got no answers. The alternative to this system is a United style buy loads of players for a particular style of play and when he can’t hit high 80 or maybe mid 90 points for a few seasons in a row sack him and have to start all over again. A hreat manager can make a decent side from a number of different styles of player imo. Playing to their strengths being the most important element and being able to work your system while also empowering them to play to thee strengths being the zenith of coaching. You don’t find that shit too often.

It's part of the problem. Player recruitment is a massive part to get right. If manager/coach and the upper structure aren't on the same page it all breaks down. Look at chiesa, never gets a look in. Do we really believe Slot wanted him?

Does anyone think Slot didn't want a cb this summer? I mean, it was the standout position with konates contract situation. Yet no cb arrived.

Unless all parties are on the same page this system will break down.

Irrespective of whether Slot wanted Chiesa or not, he has obvious qualities that merit Slot deploying him more often than he currently does. Not to mention that he probably deserves a start for saving Arne's job with that 93rd-minute sprint.

As to centre-back, Guehi was practically done - people can debate about the fee etc and there's merit to that, but it's also unfortunate that their Manager threatened to walk if Guehi departed as we seemingly get it done otherwise - and losing Leoni to such a lengthy injury was undeniably a stroke of bad luck.

It doesn't matter who we didnt get, and that the squad is lacking.

You can argue the squad isn't good enough to fight arsenal or city this season. Fine. Even the loss to city is fine.

But with the squad and specifically the attackers we have, what slot is doing with them is unacceptable. We cannot defend nor attack. He has no clue and just throws on whoever to try and win us the game. Treats some players like shit and others with unwavering support.

The losses at home to teams like forest, 3 fucking nil, and in particular the performances are down to him.

Again - the team is good enough to be, and play much better than this. We have some of the best attacking talent, at least, in the world.
We hardly ever look like scoring.

The transfer business was strange. On the one hand i was happy with the signings. But odd that we put all our eggs in the basket of isak and wirtz. Its put us under pressure throughout the squad as we've had to sell a lot to cover that cost which leaves us short on options from the bench.

It also means we really need to stretch the first team players who already look at breaking point like van dijk and konate. Mac too. Now we need to sign 3-4 first team players between January and summer. Just to stand still. All because we left the obvious needs to pile up over several windows. The isak money if nothing else could have been used to get two solid defence/ midfield options.

Totally agree. You can't tell me that klopp wouldn't get a tune out of these players! There seems to be no game plan. Chiesa should be starting for salah.ekitike for gakpo. Anyone for mac.

The fact that slot explains in detail for opposition to hear what he's doing and says he can't beat low block teams says it all. Imagine Shankly doing that!

It's not unfortunate. We left it too late. It should have been done early in the window not the last week. Again, because we didn't want to pay the extra 5mil. Glasners was right in what he done. He was protectiong himself. More managers should do that.

Leoni was bad luck. Not a lot could be done there.

I might remind you that the same manager won the league last season. But you seem lost to reason.

The season we ended up with no centrebacks. Klopp was the manager and Philips ended up being the answer to our injury crisis.

Klopp also struggled with big player power. We all remember Salah sulking when subbed and how hard it was for Klopp to drop him when needed.

This year a lot of our issues come down to 3 big players. Each hard to drop, and 2 extremely hard to drop. VVD, MacA & Salah. If these boys were on it like last season, we'd be a lot better off.
