I reiterate City used to play the style Slot is clearly trying to impose

Everything short passes, trying to walk it into the net no shooting from distance taking players in everything trying to pass through but better than we did and quicker than we did with players with better ability to play that way

City don’t use to press all that well, by 2019-20 more teams were playing a low block pressing and counter pressing and counter g against city far better and they had a terrible season by their standards

Guardiola the master of playing that way gave it up and it remains untenable as there are more teams much better at doing what teams did to City that season

It’s why I think Slot is arrogant or misinformed or lacking in knowledge of the history of the Prem and how it’s developed

To think he can achieve success adopting a style the master of which had to bin himself is just staggeringly arrogant

      Point proved again

WHAT a difference a very well coordinated and balanced press and counter press makes all in sync, all tight enough, directing each other

Right balance of picking up and looking to be in space

See how Macca benefitted tonight, picking up, then moving off his man to be found, carry and link

Same with low blocks keep that balance it’s easier for top players with greater game intelligence to pick up their player and look to move off him to win a second ball or be released or arrive in the box than too many trying to be in space being picked up

Did you actually watch the game?

        We played a high line.

Mid block press. There was no counter press.

Numbers pressing in a surrounding system with 5-6 players, in a relatively more congested space due to the high line, means a counter press is NOT necessary. More bodies. The chances of ball recovery are high this way because there is less distance now to cover, so why would you need to counterpress?

Short passes in middle with outball to Pingpong. Time and again. Where did our chance come from and we nearly scored if the pass was placed better to Wirtz? We actually kept the ball better than we have for a long time and that’s against an Arsenal team that press well.

Press and counterpress in a physically intense league equals injuries Einstein. It’s an old system now.
Bournemouth, us with Klopp, now City ( no surprises who the architect of their new way of playing is)

If all you see is “possession based football” in this new philosophy Slot is trying to implement, then you really are one thick twat.

I won’t even comment on the “diagnonal balls”, it’s that ridiculous.

You’re like the Sean Dyche of this forum.

Take some time to study PSG, because that’s who Slot waxes lyrical about, and they don’t press and counter press in the traditional sense.

Seriously, just shut the fcuk up.

He does watch the games. He just doesn't know what he's talking about.

            Do you watch? 😂😂

Unbelievable dis you count how many times we won the ball on a counter press? When a player not being the one pressing a player was picking up but ready to press the next man who’d evaded our presser when we lost possession

No we didn’t do any of this at all

Read how I’ve explained how to press and counter press and learn pay particular attention to where I describe picking up a player, while being positioned to join the attack or move the quickly win the ball back if our attack breaks down

Read and understand what counter pressing is as we did plenty of it second half

Counter-pressing (or Gegenpressing) in football is a high-intensity tactic where a team immediately swarms the opponent after losing the ball to win it back quickly, preventing them from organizing an attack and instead creating a chance to counter-attack themselves

Well, we have improved in it a lot the last few games

Wirtz has been a big part of that improvement too

Today was weird and maybe symptomatic of breaking down things that worked brilliantly to implement a new way of playing for Wirtz but last years best midfield 3 looked like they’d never played together before
